Robert Gehl reports that the United States Military dropped the largest non-nuclear bomb in Afghanistan on Thursday.

Dubbed the “Mother of All Bombs,” the 21,000-pound bomb, called MOAB was dropped in eastern Afghanistan, targeting ISIS tunnels.

The official name of the weapon is the “Massive Ordinance Air Blast Bomb” and it has never before been used in combat. CNN’s Barbara Starr reported:

The MOAB was first tested in March 2003 in Florida. There are reportedly only 15 MOABs in existence.

Here is a YouTube video of the MOAB being deployed in 2003:

The target was reportedly ISIS tunnels and personnel in the Achin district of the Nangarhar province.

The military is currently assessing the damage.

This munition was developed during the Iraq War but was never used in the battlefield.

This is a developing story and we will update as the situation warrants.
