Calvin Freiburger writes that it was supposed to be like Christmas in June for Democrats. Fired FBI Director James Comey would come to Congress and blow the lid off of Donald Trump’s efforts to cover up his work as a secret sleeper agent for Mother Russia.
Instead, they ripped open their presents and found socks inside.
The Washington Free Beacon reports that according to the prepared remarks for Comey’s Thursday testimony, he admits that he assured President Trump no less than three times that he was not the target of an FBI investigation:
In his letter firing the FBI director in May, Trump said he was grateful to Comey for telling him he was not under investigation “on three separate occasions.” Trump then repeated his account during an interview with NBC News’ Lester Holt.
Comey’s testimony confirms Trump’s account, revealing that—unprompted by Trump—Comey told the president he was not under investigation three times.
The first came between Trump’s election and inauguration, the second once Trump was in office during a White House dinner, and the third during a March phone call. Notably, the firs two arose out of discussion of a bogus dossier supposedly containing dirt the Russians had on Trump. In fact, the context for the second assurance was Comey responding to Trump floating the idea of ordering Comey to investigate in order to clear his name!
“I replied that he should give that careful thought because it might create a narrative that we were investigating him personally, which we weren’t, and because it was very difficult to prove a negative,” Comey recounts.
The Free Beacon notes that this testimony throws cold water on numerous media predictions that Comey would deny Trump’s version of events. CNN, the Huffington Post, Anderson Cooper, and PolitiFact are now among those with a generous helping of egg to clean off their faces.
Of course, this is nothing new. Government officials in positions to know — and who most certainly aren’t Trump fans — have been admitting for months that there’s no fire to this smoke.
Nevertheless, liberals persist in promoting slander, innuendo, and hysteria.
