Obama Grovels Before Saudi King as 9/11 Bill Gets Stomped On

President Barack Obama is paying a visit to the Mecca of Islamic extremism in order to meet with Saudi King Salman in Riyadh this week. The trip comes at a time when relations between the countries are strained over legislation that could potentially make state sponsors of terrorism subject to being sued by the families of victims.

It’s understandable that the House of Saud would be feeling anxious about the bill in considering that fifteen of the nineteen 9/11 hijackers hailed from the kingdom. The debauched and despotic monarchy threw a hissy fit and threatened to pull an estimated $750 billion in U.S. investments, an unprecedented action that could blow a smoking hole in Mr. Obama’s Potemkin village economic recovery in an election year.

The New York Times reported on the extraordinary Saudi threat in the story “Saudi Arabia Warns of Economic Fallout if Congress Passes 9/11 Bill”:

Saudi Arabia has told the Obama administration and members of Congress that it will sell off hundreds of billions of dollars’ worth of American assets held by the kingdom if Congress passes a bill that would allow the Saudi government to be held responsible in American courts for any role in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

The Obama administration has lobbied Congress to block the bill’s passage, according to administration officials and congressional aides from both parties, and the Saudi threats have been the subject of intense discussions in recent weeks between lawmakers and officials from the State Department and the Pentagon. The officials have warned senators of diplomatic and economic fallout from the legislation.

Adel al-Jubeir, the Saudi foreign minister, delivered the kingdom’s message personally last month during a trip to Washington, telling lawmakers that Saudi Arabia would be forced to sell up to $750 billion in treasury securities and other assets in the United States before they could be in danger of being frozen by American courts.

The royal snit came as there is also increased pressure to declassify those mysterious “28 pages” of a joint congressional report on the 9/11 attacks that are said to show material and financial support from high ranking Saudi officials for two of the hijackers. The big breakthrough came when CBS’s flagship news program 60 Minutes  recently aired a segment devoted to that hidden portion of the report featuring calls for declassification by members of the Joint Intelligence Committee that produced it.

The Obama regime is already quietly promising that any such legislation would become a victim of Barry’s veto pen and Republican leaders in Congress including Beltway establishment rock star Paul Ryan are doing their part as well.

According to CNN “McConnell, Ryan decline to back 9/11 lawsuit bill”:

The top two Republican leaders in Congress declined Tuesday to embrace a popular bill moving through the Senate that would allow families of 9/11 victims to sue Saudi Arabia.

House Speaker Paul Ryan expressed caution about unintended consequences of the legislation, which would clear the way for suits over Riyadh’s alleged role in the terror attacks, and said the House would not rush the bill.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Republican from Kentucky, was asked if he supports the bill and would put it on the floor.

He would only say he is “still looking” at it and that he doesn’t have “any announcement to make.”

The bill enjoys broad bipartisan support, but it has been stalled in the Senate by South Carolina Republican Lindsey Graham, an original co-sponsor.

Despite the media meme that there is open warfare between the Democrats and the Republicans it is the move to undermine the 9/11 bill as well as Obama’s pilgrimage to kiss King Salman’s ring that should make it clear that on all of the really bad issues that there is bipartisan unity. With Obama, Ryan and McConnell on the job expect the legislation to die a quiet death and the 28 pages to remain buried – possibly forever. God knows that the people in this once great country can’t be allowed to question a relationship with one of the top global exporters of radical Islam and all of it’s jihadist savagery. It is a relationship that has already resulted in the shedding of American blood on domestic soil and will likely do so in the future thanks to our vainglorious emperor and his cronies in Congress who are more concerned with covering their own asses than keeping this country safe.
