17 State Attorneys General Wage All Out War on Concealed Carry Reciprocity

Democrats are going all in against gun owners, despite the electoral unpopularity of the issue, fighting against the rising tide of law-abiding citizens who are being trained and vetted for a concealed carry permit. Many Democratic Attorneys General are joining that resistance, fighting against the fundamental right to bear arms.

A total of 17 Democratic Attorneys General from California, Pennsylvania, Iowa, New York, and several other states, have written to Congress urging legislators to reject H.R. 38, the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act. These demagogues issued truly ridiculous “warnings” to Congress that would be more accurately described as slander against law-abiding citizens who carry a firearm for personal protection.

According to The Washington Post, the 17 top prosecutors sent a letter to Congress urging the legislature to abandon the reciprocity legislation, claiming that it “will lead to the death of police officers and civilians, the proliferation of gun traffickers, and acts of terrorism and other mass violence.”

“With the worst shooting in American history fresh in our memory, we urge you and your colleagues to reject these ill-conceived bills,” New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman wrote.

Just let that sink in for a second, consider the sheer lunacy and deceit of their assertion.

Let’s take a person such as yourself, if you have a concealed carry permit. In your home state, you are the one most likely to know the laws, and to follow them according to the letter and the spirit. Why? Because gun owners know what happens when you don’t know the law and don’t follow it: you get your rights taken away.

There is an element of self-interest in this overwhelming law-abiding nature of concealed carry permit holders. They do not want to lose their rights, so they do not abuse their rights. If you have a carry permit, or know someone who does have a carry permit, that person is the last one you should be afraid of.

As John Lott of the Crime Prevention Research Center wrote:

[C]omparing data from Police Quarterly with Texas police data on permit holders, permit holders are even much more law-abiding than even police officers. They were one-tenth as likely to be convicted of a misdemeanor or felony, and one-seventh as likely to be found guilty of a firearms violation.

Yet, despite the overwhelming evidence showing that concealed carry permit holders are the most law-abiding demographic in the country (probably the world), these slanderers claim that we, of all people, will be killing civilians and police officers, and assisting in carrying out acts of terrorism and illegal arms trafficking. You can’t make this stuff up!

Words cannot describe how egregious, dishonest, slanderous, and morally reprehensible this claim is. Seriously, what the hell is going through these Statists’ minds?

A person that lawfully and responsibly carries a pistol every day in their home state suddenly turns into a violent psychopath when they cross an imaginary line? Do their armed security teams act in that kind of fashion? What world do these eggheads live in?

Further, these Attorneys General assert that those who live in permitless carry states would be able to circumvent the permit requirement in other states. Again, that is patently false; it proves they have no idea about concealed carry permit holders, or how the reciprocity process works.

A person who lives in a permitless carry state, such as Arizona, must abide by the laws of whatever state that person is currently in. If that person is in North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, or whatever other state, he/she must abide by those laws. In each of those states, a permit is required to carry concealed, and that person would then either need to have a permit from his/her home state, or obtain a nonresident permit from that state to which they are going, or a state which maintains reciprocity.

Permitless carry, contrary to these Statists’ assertion, is not a “loophole,” it is just one less restriction on citizens’ ability to protect themselves outside the home.

The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act requires that each person traveling to another state with their handgun abide by the laws of that state. The idea that this is just a loophole is Statist fear-mongering, sophistry, and demagoguery of the worst sort.

I don’t know about you, but such disingenuous scare-tactics just make my blood boil.
