All you hear from the media lately is ‘Russia, Russia, Russia,’ and hacked, collusion, and interference in the election.
The media still somehow blames Russia for Hillary Clinton’s pathetic loss to Donald Trump. What’s interesting though is that a few years ago, the biggest cyberattack and security breach occurred on Obama’s watch, but the media didn’t have much to say about it.
Extremely sensitive and personal information was hacked into by a foreign entity that put the entire country at risk but you probably have not heard about it. The Washington Post did do a report on the hack, but why was this not covered more thoroughly?
Two major breaches last year of U.S. government databases holding personnel records and security-clearance files exposed sensitive information about at least 22.1 million people, including not only federal employees and contractors but their families and friends, U.S. officials said Thursday.
The total vastly exceeds all previous estimates, and marks the most detailed accounting by the Office of Personnel Management of how many people were affected by cyber intrusions that U.S. officials have privately said were traced to the Chinese government.
But even beyond the rising number of apparent victims, U.S. officials said the breaches rank among the most potentially damaging cyber heists in U.S. government history because of the abundant detail in the files. Officials said hackers accessed not only personnel records of current and former employees but also extensive information about friends, relatives and others listed as references in applications for security clearances for some of the most sensitive jobs in government.
Foreign entities are always trying to hack into the U.S. government’s computers right along with private business computers. It is the government’s role to protect the country from these hackers, but apparently the responsibility of it falling on Obama was a non-starter for the media.
If the DNC was actually hacked and the emails weren’t leaks as WikiLeaks claims they are, it still falls squarely on Obama; but you’ll never hear the media say that.
The media would much rather continue to somehow blame Trump for Russian interference than point to the truth – that if there WAS interference and hacking, it happened on Obama’s watch.
