3 Rules For Gun Control Arguments Every Liberal Needs to Follow

Brian Thomas reports that the Michigan Senate is ready to begin passing new legislation which would allow people with conceal carry licenses who’ve had extra training to carry in public “gun-free” zones.

New legislation would be limited to experienced gun owners. In addition to a concealed carry permit, eligibility would be limited to certified firearms instructors who’ve completed eight additional hours of training.

Devin Patrick Kelley killed 26 people at a Texas Baptist church in Sutherland, Texas.

He likely would have continued his killing spree if it weren’t for Stephen Willeford and Johnnie Langendorff.

According to CNN, Willeford lived near the church. When he heard the shooting, he grabbed his own gun and ran out of the house barefoot to confront and shoot at the gunman, injuring him in the torso and leg.

The men pursued the shooter in Langendorff’s truck, until Kelley crashed his vehicle.

CNN reports:

Willeford exchanged gunfire with Kelley as started his escape in his Ford Explorer. He spotted Johnnie Langendorff’s truck across the street and hailed him down.

“I said, ‘that guy just shot up the Baptist church. We need to stop him,” Willeford told the affiliate.

Langendorff didn’t hesitate.

“I had to make sure he was caught,” Langendorff told CNN. “It was, ‘Do everything necessary to make sure that this guy is stopped.'”

The men pursued the gunman for 11 miles, in a chase that reached speeds of 95 mph.

Kelley eventually lost control of his truck and crashed it in a ditch. Police found him dead, with gunshot wounds, one of them self-inflicted.

Langendorff said he had no regrets about throwing himself into such a dangerous situation.

“Because that’s what you do, you chase a bad guy,” he said.

While yet again leftists think that gun control is the answer, it’s unlikely that gun control would prevent shootings any more than a “gun free zone” sign would.

The fact is that someone confronted the shooter with a gun helped save lives on Sunday. And it seems some lawmakers have learned an important lesson.

Michigan’s Senate may now pass legislation which would allow more people to exercise their right to bear arms in order to defend themselves.

Fox News reports:

The Republican-controlled Michigan Senate was poised Tuesday to begin passing legislation to let people with extra training carry guns inside churches, schools and other places now off limits.

The bills were expected to be approved by a committee Tuesday, two days after a gunman killed 26 people at a Texas church. The full chamber planned to vote as early as Wednesday. Republican Gov. Rick Snyder vetoed legislation in 2012 that would have allowed concealed pistol license holders with additional training to carry in gun-free zones.

“Anybody who wants to exercise their right to protect themselves and have a firearm should be able to do that where they need to,” said Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof of West Olive, a sponsor of the main measure . Gun-free zones, he said, are a “target-rich environment.” He said while he had already planned to hold the hearing this week, the Texas shooting reinforced the need to proceed.

Could more legislation like this help more good people like Willeford and Langendorff respond to violence to save lives?

It certainly couldn’t hurt. Who ever heard of a mass shooting being prevented thanks to a piece of plastic with the words “no guns” on it?

But perhaps the knowledge that victims will no longer be defenseless will help.
