If we could tear the press away from its Trump-Charlottesville hysteria for just one moment, perhaps they could consider doing their jobs and notice a story of actual public significance? Just maybe?
The Daily Caller reports that the FBI has reopened a Freedom of Information Act request for documents pertaining to former Attorney General Loretta Lynch’s infamous tarmac meeting with former President Bill Clinton during the 2016 presidential election.
The revelation came courtesy of Jay Sekulow, American Center for Law and Justice president and member of President Donald Trump’s legal team, who made the request.
The meeting between Bill Clinton and Lynch, which occurred at the Phoenix airport June 27, 2016, drew scrutiny as former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was being investigated at the time for improperly handling classified information.
“While we appreciate that the FBI has ‘reopened’ the case file and is now ‘searching’ for documents responsive to our duly submitted FOIA request from more than a year ago, it stretches the bounds of credulity to suggest that the FBI bureaucracy just discovered that ‘potentially responsive’ records ‘may exist’ on its own accord,” Sekulow, who is also a member of President Donald Trump’s legal team, said in a written statement.
The FBI’s letter, sent one week after the ALCJ accused the agency of lying about the existence of the documents, states “records potentially responsive to your request may exist.”
The ACLJ released 400 emails last week, surrendered by the Justice Department in response to a FOIA request, which show Lynch used an alias to coordinate a communIcations response to media inquiries about the meeting.
Conservatives should temper their excitement — it remains to be seen whether the feds will release all of the documents in question, and even if they do, investigating or prosecuting someone is another matter entirely — but it’s a start.
The more important takeaway from this story is how it reminds us just how fundamentally unserious and irresponsible the priorities of our media, commentariat, and political leaders are. Irrelevant fringe losers march and riot, and the elites of both sides agree it’s a national outrage that the current president’s repeated, explicit condemnations weren’t repeated and explicit enough.
But when spouse of a presidential candidate meets with an AG of the same party who just happens to be giving the candidate a pass on serious federal crimes and national security breaches? The Left decides that’s a non-story and the elite, Beltway Right lets them get away with it.
This madness can’t go on forever. What do you think it will take to turn it around?
