Prepare to be shocked…by the fact that something the mainstream media insisted for months would be shocking turns out not to be shocking after all.
Confused yet? Don’t be. Politico reports that according to people who have seen the meeting notes former Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort took on the infamous meeting he was present for between presidential son Donald Trump Jr. and the Russian lobbyist who was supposedly going to provide dirt on Hillary Clinton, the Trump family has nothing to worry about:
The notes from the meeting do not contain any damaging information about Clinton or references to promises of damaging information about her, nor do they indicate that officials on the campaign were promising favors or seeking them in return for money, the people who’ve seen them said.
According to these people, the notes have been with Senate officials for weeks and have been reviewed by a number of people on Capitol Hill. Also in attendance at the June 2016 meeting in New York were a Russian lawyer, a Russian businessman and other Trump campaign officials, including Jared Kushner, the president’s son-in-law.
Officials who have reviewed the notes say they are not likely to be independently vital to any case, if at all, because they are difficult to follow, particularly one year later. To be sure, the notes are not an exhaustive account of the meeting, and other things could have been discussed that are not included in the notes.
This is just the latest in a string of reminders that “Donald Trump, Russian Stooge Who Had The Kremlin Steal The Election From Hillary Clinton” is and has always been a lie, a cheap, hysterical farce meant to distract from the Democrats’ failures and delegitimize the latest object of their hate.
Previous reminders include the fact that Barack Obama didn’t think Russia hacking state election systems was a big enough deal to inform the states about it when it was really going on, emails revealing the Trump campaign team actually rejecting Russian meeting proposals…and, y’know, the complete absence of actual evidence that Team Trump colluded with Vladimir Putin’s regime.
There’s no question that continuing to indulge the delusion that this is a serious problem that needs to be investigated further is a waste of time and an insult to the intelligence and the votes everyone who voted for Donald Trump to actually get things accomplished. The only question left is when Republicans are going to grow some backbones and shut this fishing expedition down.
