BREAKING: “Take a Knee” Spreads to Congress

This whole “taking a knee” thing is getting way out of control.

Entire NFL teams, baseball teams, even people who sung the National Anthem have taken a symbolic knee in support of Colin Kaepernick and other players who decided to protest injustice in America by essentially protesting the Star Spangled Banner.

Now leftist lawmakers in Washington are getting in on the action.

Everyone’s favorite dimwitted Representative – Texas’ Sheila Jackson Lee – tried to make a point herself by taking a knee on the floor of Congress.

During a special order of the Congressional Black Caucus Monday night, the Congresswoman condemned President Donald Trump.

Trump has outraged the left by demanding that NFL players who sit out the National Anthem, or “disrespect the American” flag be fired. He has called for boycotts of NFL shows on the television and said fans should walk out of the stadium if there are any protests.

Although Trump never mentioned Kaepernick by name, Trump’s comments began when his pre-season protest went “viral,” and players and teams began doing the same thing.

Jackson Lee said that kneeling for the National Anthem is free speech.

“There is no basis in the First Amendment that says you cannot kneel on the national anthem or in front of the flag,” said Jackson Lee. “That is racism. You cannot deny it, you cannot run for it.”

She then dropped to one knee, saying she did so in “honor” of the NFL players who did the same thing. It’s a back and forth – the more protests from the NFL and the left, the greater response from President Trump – and vice versa.

“I kneel in front of the flag and on this floor, I kneel in honor of the First Amendment, I kneel because the flag is a symbol for freedom, I kneel because I am going to stand against racism, I kneel because I will stand with those young men and I’ll stand with our soldiers and I’ll stand with America because I kneel,” Jackson Lee said, HuffPo reported.

Her comments were echoed by a fellow Congressional Black Caucus member, Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.), who said via a series of tweets that there is “nothing wrong with kneeling down to stand up against injustice.”

In a statement released Monday night, the widow of Pat Tillman appealed to President Trump not to politicize the service of her husband, when he re-tweeted a comment demanding all players stand for the National Anthem in his honor.

“As a football player and soldier, Pat inspired countless Americans to unify,” Marie said. “It is my hope that his memory should always remind people that we must come together.”

“Pat’s service, along with that of every man and woman’s service, should never be politicized in a way that divides us. We are too great of a country for that,” she wrote.

What do you think? It seems the country is taking sides. Are the NFL players merely exercising their First Amendment right, or is this the wrong place and time for political demonstrations? Sound off below!
