How We Feel About Obama In 2017

Regan Pifer reports the chants and hallelujahs for the Savior Barack Obama may be ending soon in the great city of Chicago.

His Messiah status is due to expire.

It turns out Obama and his Foundation have revealed a rift between “the former president and some of the South Side residents who helped lift him to prominence.”

So while Obama likes to talk a big talk about his background, what and where he came from, and who he has helped, the message he has neatly packaged for society to consume just isn’t true.

Alert! Alert! Problems in Obama land!

The Chicago Tribune reports:

Not everyone on the South Side, it seems, thinks Obama did enough for black folks during his eight years as president. And as he prepares to build a presidential center that will pay tribute to his legacy, some South Siders are calling him out for what they consider broken promises.

Obama consistently has asked residents to trust that he will do right by them. The presidential center, he insists, will provide a wealth of opportunities specifically designed to meet the needs of Chicagoans who have long been overlooked.

Yes, everyone trust Obama. As paternalistic as that sounds. Because he knows what is best…

The downtrodden, the hungry, the voiceless. Obama has heard you and will save the day.

And how?

He plans to build the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago’s Jackson Park.

Obama had insisted that this presidential center, his own personal mecca, would “provide a wealth of opportunities specifically designed to meet the needs of Chicagoans who have long been overlooked.”

However, after the “foundation’s first public meeting last week”, Obama said “there would be no community benefits agreement.”

Such a legal document, he said, would force the foundation to side with certain activist groups and leave others out. And, he added, it would open the door for other groups to step up and start making demands…

…They are determined to hold Obama accountable to African-Americans on the South Side in a way no one ever did during his two terms in office.

There are many who see his decision to place the Obama Presidential Center on the South Side as a symbol of his love for the community. Indeed, Obama has promoted it as an economic engine for one of the city’s most economically deprived areas.

Yes, Obama’s love for the South side that carried him to the White House; the same South side he doesn’t repay, doesn’t acknowledge, doesn’t help.

“Thank you for letting me take your hard life experiences and ride them straight to the White House.”

“I will place this monstrous mecca in homage to myself in your midst to revel in my glory.

“And you will remain the same. Downtrodden and voiceless.”

All hail, Obama!

Over and over, he has asked residents to trust him, that he will see to it they are first in line to get jobs and that they will benefit from the economic wealth that will flow from the project. But some want more than that. They want a signed promise that they will not be left behind.

Welp. I’m pretty sure that ship has officially sailed.

Did Obama ever recognize his roots and help those he said he would?
