Some Americans are boycotting the NFL; whether it’s turning off the TV, canceling Sunday Ticket subscriptions, ending advertising deals, etc., they are sending a message to the NFL about what they think of players taking a knee during the national anthem.
The NFL is now responding to those messages, though many are still sending them loud and clear. That includes one Florida man who decided to go as far as hiring a pilot to send a message over the stadium this past weekend.
Terry Smiley used to be a Jacksonville Jaguars fan, but their incessant kneeling demonstrations ended his fandom. He decided to make a huge statement about it too, so he took to the skies, as Action News Jax reports.
A man from Green Cove Springs took his issues with the Jacksonville Jaguars and the NFL to the sky on Sunday.
At 1,000 feet, you could read the statement on the plane-towed banner saying, “Be American. Boycott the Jags and the NFL.”
Terry Smiley had the message printed on a banner that was flown above EverBank Field before the Jacksonville Jaguars’ game against the Los Angeles Rams.
This all-American sport is dividing fans after some NFL players took a knee during the national anthem.
“I am asking people to boycott the football games. I don’t watch it on TV,” Smiley said.
“Do you believe in your country? Do you believe in ‘The Star-Spangle Banner?’ If you don’t stand up for it now, you won’t have it in the future.”
One Jaguars fan, Jay Crossman, countered by saying that “People need to realize the true message that they’re trying to send.”
He further stated that “They have publicly stated that they care about veterans and the flag and that’s not what they’re kneeling against.” In reality, though, the original statements made by Colin Kaepernick were nothing more than slandering all police officers as murderous pigs and racist scum.
Smiley hired the pilot to fly over the stadium for two hours, right above where everyone could see the message.
Comments on the page ranged from ardent support to fairly strong opposition.
Gail Biggert ALRIGHT…. I will continue to vote with my remote and my wallet until the disrespect for our country is stopped !!!
Wayne Morrison Stand up for our flag or eventually you’ll have to shut down concession stands.. It’s sad that players want to cut their own throats over hatred toward police and our country. NO FAN LEAGUE (NFL)
Robert Hines It’s not hatred towards our country they are showing! They are trying to wake people up to the fact that even as millionaires or Veteran’s, people of different races are still treated differently in this country!
Amber Nicole The protesters ARE being American. Peacefully protesting is patriotic. These kind of people keep trying to change the narrative. This is not now, nor has it ever been, about the military or disrespecting the flag.
If those that are getting this upset about a peaceful protest got this upset over social injustice, then people wouldn’t need to kneel anymore.
