Former Transgender Explains Trump’s Military Move; Why Judge’s Ban is Dangerous

Earlier this week, a federal judge issued a ruling halting President Trump’s recent move to discharge all transgender individuals from the military.

The judge held that transgender persons are a “protected class,” and that the President’s assertions about national security concerns did not override the alleged protections that this group supposedly deserves.

According to The Washington Times, the decision is landmark.

The ruling by Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly breaks new legal ground for courts in Washington, D.C., finding that transgender status is a “quasi-suspect” legal category deserving of heightened protections by federal courts. She said Mr. Trump’s policy creates an “inherent inequality” that likely violates the Constitution.

And she said the president’s own conclusions about the value and costs of transgender troops were wrong.

“All of the reasons proffered by the president for excluding transgender individuals from the military in this case were not merely unsupported, but were actually contradicted by the studies, conclusions and judgment of the military itself,” she wrote.

Judge Kollar-Kotelly issued an injunction preventing any transgender troops from being discharged or refused the ability to join up — though she did allow the administration’s ban on the Pentagon paying for gender-reassignment treatments to remain in place.

The idea of having a transgender people in the military is simply foolishness, there is now way around it. Transgender people have a serious issue going on in their minds, where they believe that they are a gender that they biologically and physiologically are not and have never been, and never can truly be.

And people think it’s a good idea to give them machine guns and bombs, then send them into combat? What an asinine idea that someone would even consider such a proposal.

But it’s not just myself, or folks with two bits of sense who understand this. A former transgender person has come forward in support of the Trump administration’s ban on transgender people in the military. He makes some compelling points for why it is simply insane.

The Daily Signal has published a piece by Walt Heyer, who supports Trump’s decision…and “as someone who lived as trans-female for several years,” he writes, “I should know.”

Heyer is an author, public speaker, and proprietor of SexChangeRegret.com. He sees it as his mission to educate the public about people who have suffered “tragic consequences” following efforts to change their own gender.

He notes that gender dysphoria, the feeling that one’s biological sex and gender identity are mismatched, “develops from prolonged anxiety and depression,” not an actual dichotomy between mind and body, and can of course change with time. Such mental unrest, he states, obviously doesn’t fit with the military’s need for “psychologically fit, emotionally sound, highly trained troops to protect our nation from its enemies.”

Heyer also explains that for all the money that would have been spent on sex change surgery for trans soldiers, the changes are cosmetic at best and don’t treat the underlying mental issues — as evidenced by the fact that trans people attempt suicide at a rate nine times that of the US population, and “Even after the full surgical change, they attempt to end their lives, or tragically succeed.”

But the most important thing to take away from Heyer’s piece is his personal experience struggling with gender dysphoria, and the experiences of people he’s met through his work:

I myself was fully sex-reassigned from male to female, and eventually came to accept my birth gender.

I have over 70 years of firsthand life experience, eight years of living as a woman, 20 years of researching the topic, and 12 years of helping others who, like me, found that transitioning and reassignment surgery failed to be proper treatment and want to restore their lives to their birth gender […]

I hear from people who experienced firsthand how damaging and unnecessary reassignment surgeries were. For them, the sex change failed to resolve the emotional and psychological disorders that drove the desire to change gender […]

Beyond the financial cost, there’s the question of the service member’s military readiness during their transition or detransition, as the process often comes with a great deal of anxiety and emotional instability.

I know of many who have struggled to adapt to the new gender role for years after reassignment surgery.

Powerful words…that will certainly fall on deaf ears with the average liberal. The Left doesn’t care about our military, and in truth they don’t even really care about trans people. Their adoption of the LGBT banner has nothing to do with helping any American find healing or happiness, and everything to do with tearing down anything that smacks of tradition, judgment, or objective truth.
