Gumbel Accused of Deceptive Edits in Anti-Gun Segment with Couric

Anti-gun leftists in the media relentlessly promote the lie that America is in dire peril from the menace posed by firearms.

They resort to bending the truth or full-on lying in order to convince the public that they’re on the right side of the gun debate.

Just ask celebrated journalist Katie Couric.

Couric is under fire for fraudulently editing a discussion with a pro-Second Amendment group in an HBO anti-gun hitpiece.

In the propaganda film, Couric asks members of the Virginia Defense League why they don’t support “universal” background check legislation.
The interviewees are the seen in the footage sitting speechless in response to her question for a full nine seconds before the video cuts away, implying that they never figured out an answer.

But the long pause in the film was manufactured, in an attempt to depict Second Amendment supporters as tongue-tied louts.

An audio tape of the interview proves interviewees answered Couric immediately and at considerable length.

Couric simply deleted their answers, but she did not act alone in producing the deception. Bryant Gumbel is also guilty of using editing techniques to attack gun rights.

From NewsBusters:

The inventor of the AR-15 rifle, Jim Sullivan, has attacked HBO’s Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel for misrepresenting “much of what I had said” in his interview for their anti-gun segment aired on the May 24 program.

Sullivan, in a May 31 article for The Federalist, charged that the anti-gun segment (by Real Sports correspondent David Scott and producers Chapman Downes and Katie Melone) tried “to make the AR-15 civilian model seem too dangerous for civilian sales. They didn’t lie about what I said, they just omitted key parts, which changed the meaning.”

Sullivan went on to list his specific objections:

“The examples I most object to are: 1) When I appear to say that the civilian-model AR-15 is just as effective or deadly as the military M16, they omitted that I had said “When firing semi-auto only” and that “the select fire M16 on full auto is of course more effective”; and 2) the interviewer pretended not to understand the relevance that, due to the Hague Convention, military bullets cannot be expanding hollow points like hunting bullets that give up all of their energy in the target body instead of passing through with minimum wound effect, with most of the energy still in the bullet and wasted.”

This is the exact same treatment the liberal media gives every story that it perceives to have a smidgen of conservative value.

If you go in for an interview with the media, bring you own camera crew and audio recorder.

Bryant Gumbel admitted in an interview with Rolling Stone in January, that “There are a few things I hate more than the NRA,” calling the those who own firearms “pigs” who “don’t care about human life.”

HBO’s  deception is just one drop in an ocean of lies spread by the anti-gun cultists over the last 50 years. Conning the public is their only means of moving public policy towards their goals because truth and justice supports the side of gun rights.

There were over 60 shootings in 3 days in the gun free city of Chicago this past Memorial day weekend, proving that gun free cities are more dangerous.
