How deluded is the self-described “party of science” about, well, science? Very.
According to a new survey by Pew Research Center, the percentage of Americans who believe a human being’s sex can be different than the one he or she was assigned at birth is a large yet distinct minority of 44%.
Only 19% of Republicans or Republican-leaning respondents agree with that nonsense. However, the share of Democrats or Democrat-leaning respondents who agree is an utterly embarrassing 64%.
As everybody, including liberals, universally understood and admitted until a left-wing political constituency arose demanding the indulgence of a scientific fiction, biological sex is determined during a new human being’s conception, and is based on the chromosomes contributed to the new life by each parent.
This isn’t the slightest bit controversial, and no new scientific discoveries have arisen in the past few years that call into question our understanding of sex’s biology. The decision to turn sex into a matter of perception over reality was 100% ideological.
Incredibly, that may not even be the most notable finding from the poll. No, that would be this gem:
The survey also finds that Democrats with a bachelor’s degree or more education are more likely than other Democrats to say a person’s gender can be different from the sex they were assigned at birth. About three-quarters (77%) of Democrats with a bachelor’s degree or more say this, compared with 60% of Democrats with some college and 57% of those with a high school diploma or less. No such divide exists among Republicans.
In other words, the more education a Democrat has, the less likely he or she is to understand (or accept) the basic biology of the question! Simply amazing. This is a damning indictment of the misinformation America’s institutions of higher education are spreading. It’s also notable that right-of-center students are apparently discerning enough to not be fooled by obvious nonsense doled out by some tenured radical.
That said, just how reliable is this poll? Neil Munro at Breitbart has some doubts:
[T]he Pew results may be utterly unrepresentative of reality, partly because few Americans are familiar with the “sex assigned at birth.”
Also, the clause — “even if that is different from the sex they were assigned at birth” — is very vague, and may be interpreted by many respondents as referring to a adult person who undergoes cosmetic surgery of the genitalia, rather than a person who simply claims to have the “gender identity” of an opposite-sex person.
Pew’s decision to pretend that genitalia has nothing to do with a person’s sex mimics the transgender ideology, which claims that the government must force ordinary Americans to agree whenever a man or women say they are members of the opposite sex, regardless of biology, language or the inevitable civic conflicts.
Those are definitely good points worth considering; after all, more than a few issues over the years have been colored by loaded poll questioning.
On the other hand, these are Democrats we’re talking about, the same party that has wholeheartedly embraced climate-change hysteria yet doesn’t know when a baby is alive.
