University’s Ridiculous “White Racism” Course Includes a Police Presence – by Calvin Freiburger
Gee, for an ideology that’s supposed to be all about love and tolerance and equality, the Left’s hatred seems to grow more emboldened and over-the-top by the day.
The New York Daily News reports that Florida Gulf Coast University is introducing a new course, “White Racism,” which is an exploration of “the racist ideologies, laws, policies, and practices” which have enabled “white racial domination over those racialized as non-white.”
Naturally, this has generated plenty of negative feedback for the course’s instructor, sociology professor Ted Thornhill, with emails and voicemails ranging from disagreement with the class’s purpose to ad hominem attacks to racial slurs to some “ill wishes.”
Just as naturally, given the caliber of mind it takes to think a class like this is a good idea, Thornhill has turned over some 50 email pages and some voicemails s to the police — despite the fact that he admits none of them contained threats of violence, or even threats of class disruption:
Thornhill also noted some of the 50 students enrolled in the class have expressed concern for their own safety. He told the Press people’s reactions to the course have been “upsetting but perhaps not entirely surprising given the nature of these more rabid white racists.”
The university intends to have two campus police officers standing guard outside the classroom doors as a precaution.
University officials met and developed a security plan in December, ahead of the course’s rollout — though no one would comment on whether the police presence would remain throughout the semester, according to the Press.
“We have prepared for any possible distractions related to Tuesday’s first class of the ‘White Racism Course,’” Vice President and Chief of Staff Susan Evan told NBC 2, “but we are expecting normal campus civility as our students engage in this and other courses as we start the spring semester this week.”
Just imagine if professional conservatives ran to the cops every time simple hate not containing actual threats got spewed at us (which is basically every day). Somehow, I doubt our cries of victimhood would be indulged by too many people.
As for race relations on campus, NBC-2 cites the following as potential causes for concern:
Last year, white supremacy fliers were posted across campus, and in 2016, a noose was drawn on a whiteboard in a study hall. More recently, fliers stating “It’s okay to be white” were placed around campus in November.
One can’t help but wonder how thoroughly all of these have been investigated. After all, as the Daily Caller reminds us, more than a few such cases have turned out to be shams:
A supposed “noose” at University of Delaware was actually the remnants of a paper lantern, and an anonymous promise to “kill all black people” at Saginaw Valley State University ended up sourcing back to a black student.
A gay man claimed that the University of North Dakota’s Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity refused to let him into their party, and choked him because he was gay in August 2015. Investigators revealed later on that the 150 witnesses they interviewed could not corroborate the man’s story.
Finally, note the arrogant presumption that only racists could possibly be outraged by the course. News flash: if you’re teaching about slavery and segregation — you know, major parts of any American history education — your students are already learning about “racist ideologies, laws, policies, and practices” that enable “white racial domination.” The issue is peddling the fiction that racism remains institutionalized in 2018 America, which invariably slanders millions of non-racists as white supremacists. This is not complicated?
