Hollywood Stars: Armed Security Teams Better Than Individual Gun Ownership

Hollywood may be arrogant, narcissistic, and obnoxious, but what are the most prevalent characteristics of most celebrities? Good old-fashioned stupidity and hypocrisy.

The Huffington Post reports that on this weekend’s installment of “Keeping Up With The Kardashians,” a show whose very existence and continuation prove that human nature is fallen, Kendall Jenner and Khloe Kardashian wrestle with the question of whether to buy guns for their own protection.

They took a trip to a shooting range, and sought some less-than-expert counsel:

Kim Kardashian, the victim of a gun-point invasion robbery in Paris last year, advised the women to not pull the trigger on the purchase.

“With kids in the house, I just don’t think it’s something I’m comfortable with,” she said in the Yahoo/E! clip above. Asked whether she would have used a weapon during the Paris incident, in which she was bound and gagged in the bathtub, Kardashian replied, per People, “I’m not Lara Croft.”

Jenner and Khloe Kardashian ultimately decided against purchasing guns after a conference call with the gun control advocacy group Everytown for Gun Safety.

“No matter how informed or how much practice we’ve had, accidents could happen,” Khloe Kardashian said in the snippet above. “And I know that we don’t even want that possibility to be around us, so I would rather avoid all of this and leave the guns to our security team.”

Now, there’s nothing at all wrong for these ladies to make this judgment for themselves, and more power to anyone who can afford professional, comprehensive, armed protection. And to be fair, the story doesn’t quote these two saying anything one way or another about gun control.

The problem, of course, is that the average American can’t afford to pay armed security to stay at their homes and follow them wherever they go 24/7, which is where the right to arm one’s self comes in.

Therein lies the rub: the entertainment industry is full of people who have made the same decision as Kardashian and Jenner for themselves, while simultaneously advocating that Americans who can’t afford such a luxury be denied the more affordable option for personal protection. Here are a few examples of their hypocrisy:

“Shania Twain didn’t exactly have a shotgun wedding….in Puerto Rico … but it sure was a pistol — as in what the guards were packing on the beach during the ceremony,” TMZ.com reports. We’re told there were ‘several armed security guards’ […] But here’s the thing about the privileged Ms. Twain employing armed guards (lawbreaking or otherwise) in the first place—she’s a big advocate of infringements against those of us who can’t afford an armed security presence and must rely on being our own first line of defense. She was one of the signers…of the Handgun Control, Inc. (since changed to the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, to help mask their intentions) “Open Letter to the NRA,” a full page ad published in USA Today” […]

This year’s Oscar show will be the first since the terrorist attacks in San Bernardino and Paris which, all told, took the lives of 144 people and injured 390. Law enforcement says there is “no specific information relative to threats” to this year’s Academy Awards, which is good news. Still, Sunday’s Oscars at the Dolby Theatre in the heart of Hollywood not only will be swarming with hundreds of law enforcement officers, but there also will be SWAT team members with bulletproof vests and tactical gear, bomb-sniffing dogs and sophisticated surveillance equipment (both overt and covert) […]

Sources close to the show tell The Blast that ever since Kimmel re-ignited his campaign against the Republicans’ health care proposals, the comedian has had some issues with protestors at the show. We’re told the show has responded by adding security to the tapings — increasing personnel at both the front and back entrances. According to our sources, the additional security consists of highly-trained, off-duty police officers.

Do you think Hollywood will ever realize that this sort of thing is exactly why we peasants don’t take them seriously? Let us know in the comments below.
