Since the passage of the GOP tax plan, dozens of companies across the US are offering raises and major bonuses for employees, but House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi says the employee benefits are just “crumbs.”
American Airlines announced that 130,000 employees would receive $1,000 bonuses, while AT&T announced that it would give 200,000 employees a $1,000 bonus. Bank of America, Comcast, Fiat Chrysler, JetBlue, and others have made similar announcements.
Wells Fargo announced the company would raise its minimum wage to $15 an hour, as did Fifth Third Bancorp in addition to $1,000 bonuses.
Walmart and Southwest Airlines recently joined the bunch. Walmart announced that it would give its employees $1,000 bonuses and raise the company’s minimum wage to $11 an hour.
Southwest Airlines announced that it would give about $5 million to charities and give both full-time and part-time employees $1,000 bonuses.
The benefits of the tax cut are already obvious, but Nancy Pelosi says the bonuses and raises are just “crumbs” during her latest weekly press briefing.
With unbelievable hypocrisy, Pelosi called the wage increases and widespread bonuses “pathetic.”
The Washington Times reports:
Walmart joined a growing list of companies on Thursday that are passing along the economic benefits of tax reform to employees, but Mrs. Pelosi is not impressed. She told reporters during her weekly press briefing that Walmart, Southwest Airlines and other companies are merely looking for good press.
“In terms of the bonus that corporate America received versus the crumbs that they are giving workers to kind of put the schmooze on is so pathetic. It’s so pathetic,” the California Democrat said.
“I would hope that with their big advantage of bringing money home at a very low rate that they would invest in infrastructure and things, but our experience has been that they will do dividends, do stock buybacks and things like that,” she continued. “I think it’s insignificant.”
To the wealthy California lawmaker and her businessman husband, wage hikes and $1k-to-$3k bonuses are “insignificant.” Pelosi happens to be among the wealthiest of America’s wealthiest. With hundreds of millions in assets, average lifetime incomes are “crumbs” to Pelosi as well.

Obama’s $40 payroll tax cut, meanwhile, was a “victory for all Americans” according to Pelosi.
The Daily Caller reports:
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s comments related to tax savings have changed dramatically over the past seven years: She previously lavished praise on former President Barack Obama’s $40 payroll tax cut, but now dismisses the $1,000 bonuses doled out by corporate America as a result of the recently signed GOP tax overhaul.
The wealthy California lawmaker called legislation extending a $40 payroll tax cut in 2011 a “victory for all Americans” and attributed the accomplishment to “Obama’s leadership” […]
More than two million American workers have received bonuses — some ranging as high as $3,000 — thanks to the Republican tax bill, according to a list from Americans for Tax Reform.
Pelosi is not alone in belittling Americans’ new found tax savings. Prominent Democrats have returned to a common refrain as the effects of the sweeping tax reform begin to take shape, casting wage increases, expanded bonuses and benefits as meaningless handouts from corporations.
Having railed against the tax plan from the beginning, Pelosi and other Dems can’t stand to see it succeed and benefit businesses and employees alike.
That’s why she has to resort to calling the raises and bonuses “crumbs.” Average Americans see things differently.
The latest company announcements, however, are just the beginning, and Pelosi will only get more furious as she apparently hates to see Americans earning more against her wishes.
