NBC Just Paid a HUGE Price For Hiring Megyn Kelly

Megyn Kelly’s ratings are so bad over on NBC that she’s actually dragging down shows that are within her general vicinity. She’s like a black hole of awfulness, ratings-wise, at the network.

This is certainly not what NBC had in mind when they lured her away from Fox News and promised her millions of dollars and her own TV show.

After the primetime show bombed, she was given a morning show after the always-popular “Today” show franchise, but it’s not going any better there.

Page Six is reporting that “Megyn Kelly Today” is dragging down the “Today” show franchise into the ratings black hole.

“Not only are ratings plummeting since Megyn Kelly joined the “Today” franchise, but the numbers show Kelly’s lead-in has also affected Kathie Lee [Gifford] and Hoda Kotb’s show, which follows straight afterwards,” a source said.

“They’ve taken a huge hit with Megyn as their lead-in,” the insider added.

So Megyn’s hour of “Today” is wedged in between the two-hour main show and the show with Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb.

Kelly’s hour of the show is down a full 32 percent compared to a year ago and the probably unwatchable “Kathie Lee and Hoda” is down another 26 percent compared to a year ago.

“Too many people are tuning out NBC. Hoda and Kathie Lee had been a bright spot in the mornings.

People are alarmed,” the source said of the slide. Another source told us that “Today” talent is concerned.

“The format for Megyn’s show doesn’t make sense. Her show distracts from the ‘Today’ franchise,” the second source said.

Making things worse, Kelly broke up with her powerful publicist, Leslee Dart last month and dustups with Jane Fonda and Debra Messing haven’t helped. It’s so bad that her single show might be hurting NBC’s parent company, Comcast, and their bottom line.

Kelly’s slip-ups aren’t just tabloid fodder—they may be affecting NBC’s bottom line. Ratings for her first shows have been good but not great: The premiere of Megyn Kelly Today beat time slot rival Live With Kelly and Ryan by a slim 170,000 viewers, and Kelly was ahead by only 67,000 in the crucial 25-54 age demographic.

Stock in Comcast, which owns NBCUniversal, has also taken a hit during Kelly’s first week. Comcast shares were down almost two percent in early trading today.

But an NBC insider told us things aren’t all bad for Kelly. “Megyn posted her highest ratings yet in the ‘key demographic’ on Monday, and she had her biggest total viewer number since the premiere . . . Everyone knows that ratings fluctuate at the start of a new show, and there has been nothing but support for Megyn from all of the ‘Today’ show hosts. They have each taken her out to lunch — Kathie Lee just took her to lunch today.”

There was Megyn Kelly “BT” and “AT;” before her dustup with President Donald Trump during the presidential debates last year and afterward. If NBC thought “Before Trump” Megyn Kelly is as popular as “After Trump” Megyn Kelly, they made a big mistake.
