Earlier this week, TFPP reported that National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell sent a letter to team owners declaring that every football player should stand for the National Anthem in the future. We were encouraged by the concession to public outrage, but remained wary of Goodell’s continued equivocation on the underlying issue of the vicious lie the protests represented.

Well, now we know that wariness was the proper response, that declarations of victory were premature, and that the NFL still hasn’t learned its lesson. Reuters reports that the league still won’t enforce its preexisting rules on respecting the Star-Spangled Banner, and in fact will explore bold and exciting new ways to appease its partisan players:

“(Goodell) has a plan that he is going to present to owners about how to use our platform to both raise awareness and make progress on issues of social justice and equality in this country,” NFL spokesman Joe Lockhart said on a conference call.

“What we don’t have is a proposal that changes our policy, we don’t have something that mandates anything. That’s clear. If that was the case I doubt the head of the NFLPA would have put a joint statement out with us.”

The statement released on Wednesday said Goodell invited NFLPA Executive Director DeMaurice Smith to the meetings and that the agenda will be a continuation of how to make progress on the important social issues that players have vocalized […]

Lockhart said the discussions will focus on how to use the broad platforms of the NFL, players and clubs to try and make progress on issues of equality, social justice and criminal justice reform.

Translation: get ready for an NFL that’s even more leftist, more preening, more insufferable, and more alienating to the very audiences it needs to survive and thrive. One can only imagine what form this new social (in)justice initiative will take. And while the kneeling might not be as frequent due to players and coaches voluntarily deciding they don’t want the bad press, plenty of punks will keep on doing it, with few if any consequences to stop them.

This is truly an incredible demonstration of how the culture of leftism overrides every other consideration, including good business sense. Goodell and the rest of the NFL’s bigwigs know the beating they’ve taken. They know their customers just want to watch football without being lectured by athletes who don’t know the first thing about law enforcement policy or America’s true civil-rights history. But they simply don’t care. Either appeasing their entitled, overpaid players is more important to them than the fans who built the NFL, or the leftist agenda is more important to them.

One last point: we can expect the usual suspects (*coughDavidFrenchcough*) to spin this story as proving President Donald Trump made things worse by speaking out, because now we’re still getting kneeling plus additional propagandizing from the NFL. That’s nonsense — Trump will still have done the nation a public service by getting the organization to unmask itself and make perfectly clear just how infested with liberals it has become.

The American people’s disgust has not abated. The boycotts will continue, as well they should.
