The monstrous big government boondoggle that is the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is once again making news for all of the wrong reasons.
During the height of the summer vacation season, travelers can expect to be confronted by enormous lines and staggering wait times at the East Soviet bloc style checkpoints that have become as American as apple pie in the 21st century.
It’s the latest bit of negative publicity for an agency that has been riddled with problems and dogged by controversy since it’s inception.
The TSA was a part of the big government overreaction to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 that all but slammed the door on American traditions such as the right to privacy and the ability to exist as a people free from harassment by uniformed government goons that operate with impunity.
Whether it be stealing from travelers, sexual assaults, feeling up children, humiliating elderly women in medical diapers, or just the sort of run of the mill bullying that is typical for authoritarian personality types, the TSA has served as the worst example of the excesses of the “new normal” after the towers fell.
Nobody is safe from the intrusions of the TSA and such innocuous actions as simply yawning could be the trigger for special scrutiny – at least according to a secret behavior checklist that was leaked last year.
The never-ending war on terror gave the feds the perfect excuse to exercise the Rahm Emanuel maxim of never letting a serious crisis “go to waste,” and we have become a far less free people ever since.
Emperor Obama’s hand-picked affirmative action stooge who heads up the Department of Homeland Security – Jeh Johnson – deflected criticism of the lines and said that they’re working on it; or in layman’s terms, “deal with it.”
As reported by CNN “TSA security line waits inevitable, DHS secretary says”:
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security will immediately increase the use of overtime and work to quickly bring in more screening officers to help alleviate long lines at airport security checkpoints, Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson said Friday.
But Johnson warned that longer wait times are inevitable during the busy summer travel season.
“We encourage people to have the appropriate expectations when they arrive at airports,” Johnson said at a news conference at Reagan National Airport outside Washington. “Contemplate increased wait times as you travel.”
The Transportation Security Administration also will move to accelerate the hiring of 768 new security officers it had planned to bring on during 2016, Johnson said. The agency hopes to have those officers in place this summer, possibly as early as mid-June, he said.
The TSA will take other steps, including deploying more dogs to assist in screening and seeking help from airlines with “nonsecurity” work such as moving bins, Johnson said.
But the government cannot take shortcuts that could endanger security. “We want to keep passengers moving, but we want to keep passengers safe,” Johnson said.
The official mantra of “keeping us safe” has come to justify each and every government power grab, and explain away any screw ups in the absurd and arbitrary excesses of the cash cow that is the Global War on Terror (GWOT). Little more should be expected from a privileged government apparatchik like Johnson who is just another high official in the Obama regime who isn’t held accountable.
Orwell himself said it best: “all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.” When looking at modern day Obamastan it’s evident that he was an optimist.
Just because government officials insist that they want to “keep us safe,” Americans have been forced to submit to every whim of the TSA Gestapo, strip off their belts and shoes, and walk upon a carpet of the foot fungus of others in order to board an airplane.
It is understandable to have heightened security measures in the age of ISIS, but somehow it’s hard to shake the feeling that the entire Homeland Security thing is less about preventing terrorism and more about well-connected contractors raking in the dough, as well as the feds being able to get law-abiding Americans to bow their heads and kiss the whip.
The increased wait times that will only worsen as the summer arrives and the government fumbles along and makes excuses that relief is coming. However, we are living in a rare time when normally submissive Americans are finally showing signs of rebellion against a system that long ago stopped representing them.
The brewing political revolt against the establishment that has given rise to both Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Bernie Sanders shows that a vast reservoir of anger exists within the general public. Who knows, maybe the TSA line fiasco will induce some act of protest with passengers either staging a sit in, or rushing the checkpoints in a manner that just can’t be ignored by the corrupt pocket media.
There is nothing that screams communism quite like the TSA and the restriction of the right to unimpeded travel of previously “free” Americans. It would be the cherry on top of the cake in this year of political rebellion if someone had the stones to simply say – no more!
