The Democrats have found their new champion to slay the dragon known as President Donald Trump in 2020. And her name is Oprah Winfrey.
In as much as presidential candidates have moments when you know they are, at minimum, considering running for president, the Golden Globes on Sunday was Oprah’s coming out party.
Her moment was the rousing speech she gave when she accepted the 2018 Cecil B. DeMille Award.
“What I know for sure is that speaking your truth is the most powerful tool we all have, and I’m especially proud and inspired by all the women who have felt strong enough and empowered enough to speak up and share their personal stories,” she said. “Each of us in this room are celebrated because of the stories that we tell, and this year we became the story. But it’s not just a story affecting the entertainment industry. It’s one that transcends any culture, geography, race, religion, politics or workplace.”
Your truth? Tell everyone more about your truth, and your fight for women, as we look at this picture of you kissing serial sexual abuser Harvey Weinstein.

“I want tonight to express gratitude to all the women who have endured years of abuse and assault because they, like my mother, had children to feed and bills to pay and dreams to pursue. They’re the women whose names we’ll never know,” she said.
If there was any doubt that she is using her Golden Globes speech to launch a potential bid for the presidency in 2020 that was erased when she took a veiled shot at President Trump.
“I want to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, because we all know the press is under siege these days. But we also know it’s the insatiable dedication to uncovering the absolute truth that keeps us from turning a blind eye to corruption and to injustice, to tyrants and victims, and secrets and lies. I want to say that I value the press more than ever before as we try to navigate these complicated times,” she said.
If Oprah wonders why the press is “under siege” she should take a look at a tweet NBC sent after her Golden Globes speech. It read “Nothing but respect for OUR future president.”
It is that type of “unbiased” journalism that has their credibility questioned Oprah, not the president.
Her longtime companion, Stedman Graham, believes she will run for president if the people want her to.
“It’s up to the people,” he told the Los Angeles Times. “She would absolutely do it.”
But according to Winfrey herself, there is no chance that she will run for president.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter’s “Awards Chatter” in June, Winfrey, who is by any measure one of the most successful and revered women in history, said she would not run. Not only would she not run for president, she wouldn’t run for any office, she said.
“I will never run for public office,” she said. “That’s a pretty definitive thing.”
When asked if she could defeat President Trump she said “I don’t know. I don’t know the answer to that. But I’ll never have to know the answer to that, because I will never run for public office.”
Someone better tell Hollywood, because as of Monday they are on the Oprah 2020 train.
