Culture Nazis have claimed another victory by shutting down a small business in Portland.
The pop-up shop Kooks Burritos sold authentic Mexican food and that simply would not do.
See, white people making tacos is “cultural appropriation” they say, and better to force the place out of business than put up with that.
Kali Wilgus and LC Connelly are owners … were owners … of Kooks Burritos. They took a trip to Mexico to pick the brain of the local tortilla makers and brought their cooking secrets back to the states.
“I picked the brains of every tortilla lady there in the worst broken Spanish ever, and they showed me a little of what they did,” Connelly told Willamette Weekly.
“They told us the basic ingredients, and we saw them moving and stretching the dough similar to how pizza makers do before rolling it out with rolling pins. They wouldn’t tell us too much about technique, but we were peeking into the windows of every kitchen, totally fascinated by how easy they made it look. We learned quickly it isn’t quite that easy.”
This interview caught the eye of America’s culture warriors and when it was all over, Kooks Burritos shut down and the owners tried to disappear off the face of the map.
It started with self-appointed culture Nazi, Bob Hopkinson who apparently spends his time drinking coffee, engaging in “direct action,” and writing emails.
He sent out this tweet to his 2,000 followers:

Then the comments to the article began. One woman wrote:
“Now that you all boldly and pretty f*cking unapologetically stole the basis of these women’s livelihoods, you can make their exact same product so other white ppl don’t have to be inconvenienced dealing with a pesky brown middle woman getting in their way.”
Then the uber-leftist site Mic.com got involved with an article titled “These white cooks bragged about stealing recipes from Mexico to start a Portland business.”
Then the negative reviews flooded in. Yelp was barraged with one-star reviews from Social Justice Warriors™ who have never visited the place.
Then it grew … someone decided to circulate a list of “white-owned” businesses that are “appropriating” other cultures. The list also contains “PoC (people of color) alternatives.
So Kooks Burritos shut down, the owners went underground and the Culture Nazis got their way.
Eventually, I suppose, you will be banned from enjoying or participating or eating anything remotely “ethnic,” unless you can draw a generational lineage to that ethnic group.
Is that what we want?
