SHOCK: High School Quiz Makes “Shooting at Trump” an Option

Just in case you needed a reminder that America’s public schools are completely and disgracefully out of control, this should do it.

Jackson Hole News & Guide reports that Wyoming parents are outraged that a Jackson Hole High School English teacher posted online an image, since confirmed to be accurate by the school district, of one question from a multiple-choice quiz she gave her students on the George Orwell novel Animal Farm:

Napoleon has the gun fired for a new occasion. What is the new occasion?

– He was shooting at Trump
– His birthday
– For completion of the windmill
– To scare off the attackers of Animal Farm

Three guesses which option caused the ruckus, and the first two don’t count.

The report quotes extensively from a parent of one of the teacher’s students. Here’s a sample that says it all:

Jim McCollum was surprised when his son Rylee McCollum, a junior, came home and showed him a screenshot of the online test.

“I had to read it two times,” McCollum said. “I was like, ‘Are you kidding me?'”

McCollum, a self-described conservative who voted for President Donald Trump, said that while he “cringes at some of the things he says,” the question was completely out of line.

“It’s about respect for the office more than anything,” he said. “That’s enough of this. No way” […]

McCollum graduated from Jackson Hole High School in 1985 and was “born and raised” in Jackson. He shared the question on Facebook, which took off with shares and angry comments similar to his own, as well as a few students defending the teacher.

And how is the local education establishment responding?

In a statement this morning, the district said, “TCSD #1 administration learned late yesterday that a quiz was administered to a class of high school students that contained an inappropriate answer to a multiple choice question. Administration is investigating this incident and verifying the information we have received.

“TCSD #1 takes seriously threats of any kind, regardless of the intent. We apologize to the students, families and community for this incident and will be addressing the issue with personnel.”

That gives us an idea for a pop quiz of our own: Do you think “addressing” will mean anything more than a slap on the wrist for the offending teacher?

– Doubtful
– Hell no
– Are you kidding?
– HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

As outrageous and inexcusable as it is that our public schools are teeming with “professional” educators who collect paychecks from the taxpayers while sprinkling their teaching with violent fantasies about politicians they hate for no other purpose than to amuse their malice, that’s not the real story here.

No, the real story would be that nothing is going to change.

Nothing is going to change because the good guys aren’t working to make anything change. Where are the grassroots organizations that should be watching their local school boards like hawks, fighting to oust board members who protect the status quo and replace them with reformers? Where are the governors getting to work cleaning their state education departments to the wall? And where are the legislatures who should be punishing schools that tolerate this insanity by threatening to cut off their funding?
