SHOWDOWN: De Blasio DEFIES Trump Over Sanctuary Cities And ICE

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio made it clear on CNN that he has no intention of complying with federal authorities when it comes to illegal immigration and continues to, as a sanctuary city, refuse to recognize the fact that illegal immigrants are already criminals by being here illegally; long before they commit any other crimes.

The Washington Free Beacon reported:

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio told CNN’s Alisyn Camerota on Thursday that New York City will harbor illegal immigrants who commit low level crimes.

Camerota said that there are some sanctuary cities who have said that they won’t cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) even if the people in their jails are undocumented. She then asked de Blasio why they shouldn’t be handed over to ICE.

“Another misunderstanding about the so-called sanctuary cities. Here’s a list right here of 170 offenses that if someone is undocumented and commit this offense, we will work with ICE and they will be deported,” de Blasio claimed.

Camerota then proceeded to ask whether or not that list referred to low-level crimes.

“No, these are serious crimes,” de Blasio replied. “These are serious crimes, violent crimes, even possession of a weapon, for example, of any kind, 170 offenses that if an undocumented person commits, that triggers by New York City law, cooperation with ICE for deportation.”

Camerota asked de Blasio to be more specific about the crimes he claimed were considered low level.

“There are very low level crimes, for example, small amounts of marijuana possession, going through a stoplight when it doesn’t cause any damage to anyone,” de Blasio said. “Those are areas where we will not work to see someone deported.”

Huh, interesting. If de Blasio and his ilk think that illegal immigrants should be allowed to stick around and be given the rights of American citizens, why should they be deported if they commit another crime? I thought in leftist land it didn’t matter that they weren’t citizens and that they should be treated the same as anyone else?

Such is leftist “logic.”

President Trump has made securing the border and tackling illegal immigration major tenets of his campaign and now presidency. He has finally shed a light on the many Americans who have been hurt by illegal immigration and the fact that the country as a whole is harmed by not following the rule of law.

Sanctuary city mayors got a kick in the pants recently as Trump signed an executive order to defund cities that choose to flout the law. Boston’s mayor was particularly perturbed by the notion that there would be consequences for his and other mayors’ shameful actions. NBC reported:

“We will not be intimidated by the threat to federal funding,” Boston Mayor Marty Walsh said at a press conference Wednesday flanked by immigrant city workers.

“I want everyone to just get a picture of those behind me today,” he said. “This is America who’s behind me: the many immigrants who work for the city of Boston and the many first generation Americans who work for the city of Boston.”

Walsh spoke out after Trump signed an executive order earlier Wednesday eliminating most federal funding for cities with sanctuary policies in place.

Trump’s executive order, titled “Enhancing Public Safety in the Interior of the United States,” would make communities that do not fully comply with federal immigration enforcement agencies, ineligible “to receive Federal grants, except as deemed necessary for law enforcement purposed by the Attorney General or the Secretary [of Homeland Security].”

I’m guessing those city workers Walsh referred to were not here legally, since there wouldn’t be an issue if they weren’t criminals (as anyone here illegally is), so it is truly disgusting for Walsh to claim that criminals represent America.

As Trump noted in his DHS speech, he is concerned about Americans, and thank God for that — it’s about time. It’s sad to see an American mayor show more concern for those who are not citizens and have broken the laws of this country than those who are legal American citizens.

Fortunately, there will now be consequences to this sickening, anti-American refusal to respect the rule of law.
