Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has pledged to sign a law that would ban sanctuary cities in his state.
He made the announcement Sunday on Twitter, adding that he had already issued an order cutting federal funding to cities such as Austin that have chosen to remain sanctuary cities.
Yes. I'm going to sign a law that bans sanctuary cities. Also I've already issued an order cutting funding to sanctuary cities. #txlege https://t.co/uYXa2QFrvE

He is not alone in this desire to stem the propagation of illegal immigration in his state. Austin news station KVUE reported earlier this month that state Sen. Charles Perry filed his own bill “aimed at getting rid of sanctuary cities in the state by requiring that local governments and law enforcement agencies enforce immigration laws without a question.”
“By electing a Republican president and Republican majorities in Congress, the American people made it clear that solving our illegal immigration crisis must be a priority,” he told the station.
“No city in Texas should be allowed to ignore the law,” Lt. Governor Patrick said in his own statement released after Perry announced his bill. “We will end this practice once and for all this session.”

Moreover, President-elect Donald Trump has also promised to target sanctuary cities, claiming during his 2016 presidential election campaign that he would block funding to such cities.
After his election victory, he added that he intends to “prioritize deporting or jailing any undocumented immigrants who were members of gangs or had criminal records,” according to The Hill.
As of late November, there were two sanctuary cities in Texas (Austin and Dallas) and an estimated 200 or so total throughout the states.
By allowing illegal immigrants to flourish within their communities, the leaders of these various cities were flouting federal immigration laws and also placing their constituents at grave risk of harm and even potential murder.
By the time Abbott, Perry, Patrick and Trump get through with them, however, there should hopefully be zero such cities left in Texas and the continental United States.
And maybe, just maybe, the political hacks who have been propping up such atrocious policies will be out of a job.
