Trump To Nominate Callista Gingrich As U.S. Ambassador To The Vatican

Just when you think you’ve become immune to any Trumpian surprise…

He plans to nominate Callista Gingrich as the U.S. ambassador to the Vatican.

Who is Callista Gingrich? Wife to former House speaker Newt Gingrich.

Is Callista Gingrich qualified to take on such a role?

Not that I can tell.

She worked as an aide on the Hill for a few years. She now serves as president of the Gingrich’s multimedia production company.

Oh, and she’s also written a few children’s books and serves in the church choir.

That’s qualification enough, no?

Why Trump, why?

This hasn’t been confirmed yet, but this is what The New York Times reported yesterday.

According to CBS News:

The report said the idea of nominating Gingrich was first floated in January and one source told the Times that the president “half-jokingly said he was intrigued by the idea” of picking her because it could mean that he could get her husband “out of his hair.”

One source told the Times that Gingrich threatened to withdraw her name from consideration because the vetting process has been slow, the report said. Former Sen. Rick Santorum, R-Pennsylvania, was also considered for the role, the newspaper reported.

The White House didn’t respond to a request for comment, the report said.

I guess if it gets Gingrich out of your hair… it’s worth it(?).
