Seth Connell writes we’re all aware of the curricular conditioning that students receive in government “education” centers, where tyrannical content like Common Core is shoved down our kids’ throats with little or no transparency or say in the process. I’m sure many of you have experienced that for yourselves.
But what if I told you there was a more overt form of indoctrination and brainwashing that was taking place in schools, to the point that even the school district itself had to file a lawsuit over it.
Well, look no further than loony Berkeley, California, where one of the local middle school teachers tried to effectively force students into joining crazed Left-wing causes using her teacher position.
According to The Daily Caller, The Berkeley Unified School District claims that one of their teachers, Yvette Felarca, abused her position to get students to join the far-Left organization known as By Any Means Necessary (BAMN). BAMN is an organization that places a high priority on youth involvement (as many Leftist movements do), and Felarca felt the need to… use the opportunity presented to her.
Despite repeated warnings, the district says, Felarca continued to try to recruit students into her radical organization, including during work hours. Felarca frequently tried to bring students on school-sponsored trips to BAMN-related activities, which the district claimed were attempts to “indoctrinate” the students, according to Berkeleyside.
“This position taken by you and BAMN that U.S. border should be entirely open is a very radical and controversial idea that many students and parents would not support,” the letter stated.
The letter also explicitly condemned her for the indisputable actions she took to manipulate students. “[I]t was evident that you and your [By Any Means Necessary] representatives were actively trying to brainwash and manipulate these young people to serve your own selfish interests in not being held accountable to the same rules that apply to everyone else. As a teacher, your conduct was particularly reprehensible.”
Felarca did not comply though, and the school attempted to take disciplinary action against her. However, brainwashed students interrupted the hearings to support their crazed leader.
Local newspaper Berkeleyside reported that many of her supporters claim that she has done nothing wrong, and is only helping her students to succeed.
Her supporters have previously come out by the dozens to say Felarca is an excellent teacher who focuses on helping students learn how to stand up for themselves and stand up for their rights.
But of course, why would any brainwashed student say she was doing something wrong? It’s like a political case of Stockholm Syndrome.
This is not an isolated incident though. Felarca herself has a history of loony Left-wing activism and “free speech” that includes assault on opponents.
For her, this is nothing out of the ordinary, but for many other teachers, it’s a pattern of behavior as well. The Daily Caller also made note of another teacher-led protest that even shut down schools in Detroit.
In December 2015, Nicole Conaway, a BAMN organizer and math teacher at East English Village Preparatory Academy in Detroit, led a “sickout” where teachers called in sick to protest Republican Governor Rick Snyder. The sickout forced six Detroit-area schools to cancel classes, affecting nearly 4,000 students. One month later, Conaway led students in a school walkout protesting poor building conditions. She was one of three BAMN organizers arrested in connection with the protest.
Can teachers who call out sick and subsequently shut down schools really be considered to be doing the best for their students? I’m no education expert, but if you want to be a crazed Left-wing protester, don’t make your students be the ones who suffer the consequences of your totalitarian griping.
But yet again, that would be antithetical to Leftist ideology, wouldn’t it?
