A dimwitted, mohawk-wearing vandal who left bacon inside a mosque was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
Michael Wolfe, 37, plead guilty to “criminal mischief at a place of worship” after he smashed windows and lights with a machete at a Central Florida mosque in January 2016. The sentence contained a “hate crime enhancement” and Wolfe received 15 years in prison and 15 years of probation. He was also sentenced as a “habitual offender.”
A surveillance video showed the Titusville man busting up the lights, cameras and windows that night with his machete.
As a final token of his idiocy, Wolfe left slices of bacon by the front door. Consumption of all pork products is forbidden in Islam, as pigs are considered “unclean.”
Details of any motive were not released. In addition to criminal mischief, he was charged with armed burglary, but that charge was dropped in court in exchange for his plea.
Here’s the surveillance video of the man’s late-night antics:
Imam Muhammad Musri, who oversees a network of mosques in Central Florida. lauded the state attorney’s office’s effort to send a message to those who would target Muslims or houses of worship.
“The intent is to really deter similar kinds of hate crime. After what we’ve seen in Texas at the church, this is needed,” Musri told Florida Today, pointing out that authorities stopped a plot this week targeting a Jacksonville mosque. “Our schools, our churches, our theaters, it’s a red line. It’s heartbreaking. The hate must stop,” he said.
According to Florida Today, Wolfe has had multiple run-ins with the law dating back to 1998, including convictions in burglary of an unoccupied dwelling and grand theft in 2004— for which he was sentenced to two years, seven months and two days in prison— and burglary of a conveyance in 2011, for which he was sentenced to 64 days in the county jail. Wolfe was also fined and sentenced to probation after a 2001 burglary and grand theft arrest when he was just 20 years old, records show.
In addition, Wolfe was found guilty in three DUI offenses, possession of hydrocodone and cannabis, and an array of traffic violations. He spent over a year and a half in total in the Brevard County Jail over the course of his sentencings.
There have been previous incidents of bacon left at the foot of mosques or on doors. Back in December 2015, someone left a couple strips of bacon on a Las Vegas mosque. It was labeled a hate crime and the FBI immediately got involved.
In April, a woman was arrested for breaking windows at a California mosque and leaving bacon at the front.
Lauren Kirk-Coehlo, 40, put bacon strips on the door handles at a Davis mosque.
In court, it was easily determiend that this young lady is insane:
“Ms. Coehlo has shown she is willing to act on her racist and hateful beliefs, that she sees herself as a ‘hero’ doing it, that she harbors a desire to ‘kill many people,’ that she is collaborating with like-minded people and she is at least looking for information on devices used to cause mass damage,” Deputy District Attorney Ryan Couzens wrote in a motion to deny bail.
