Conservatives have been pushing for the United States to do more hydraulic fracturing as a boon to the economy as well as for increased energy independence, while liberals have been putting up roadblocks. But this latest statement out of the Obama administration is going to incense liberals.
The Washington Examiner reported that Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz admitted at a field hearing in Seattle last week that hydraulic fracturing, colloquially known as “fracking,” is actually good for the environment.
“The natural gas boom, in particular, has led to the displacement of high-carbon coal with low-carbon natural gas producing fewer emissions,” Moniz added.
The Examiner reported:
“Moniz’s comments follow those by the head of the Energy Information Administration, the Energy Department’s analysis arm, earlier this month, indicating that carbon emissions are lower than they have been since 1992 because of increased reliance on natural gas from hydraulic fracturing, known as fracking.”
As the Examiner noted, environmental groups have put pressure on politicians to ban fracking completely and move to 100% renewable energy, because they claim the energy produced from fracking increases greenhouse gas emissions and ramps up climate change.
These comments from Moniz appear to debunk the left’s claims and instead reinforce the calls from those on the right to increase the use of hydraulic fracturing.
These leftist environmental groups want to tear down the U.S. economy based on junk science and completely unproven theories.
Surely, these groups will find a way to spin Moniz’s comments so they can continue to try and cripple the economy, but it’s abundantly clear that the U.S. needs to move toward energy independence.
Of course we need to make sure that fracking is done safely; however, not fracking based on unproven theories from hysterical left-wing groups is absolute insanity.
If they don’t concede on this issue, it will be abundantly clear once again that the left doesn’t actually care about the environment — they simply want to tear down the free-market capitalist system which they so clearly hate.
They claim to want 100% renewable energy even though it isn’t possible, and certainly isn’t possible without decimating our economy…which is precisely what they want to happen.
