Danny Masterson’s Wife Files for Divorce, Demands Spousal Support After Sentencing for Rape

Bijou Phillips, 43, has officially filed for divorce from her disgraced husband, Danny Masterson, according to court documents obtained by Fox News Digital.

Citing “irreconcilable differences,” Phillips took this decisive step, bringing an end to their union, which began in 2011 and resulted in the birth of their daughter.

In her petition, Phillips is seeking full legal and physical custody of their minor daughter, while Masterson is to receive child visitation rights.

Moreover, Phillips is also requesting spousal support from the disgraced actor, who, notably, stands convicted of rape. In the same court documents, she asks for the court to terminate any support to Masterson.

Furthermore, the division of assets between the couple, married for over a decade, remains to be determined, with no mention of a prenuptial agreement.

Phillips is also demanding that Masterson shoulder her attorney fees and that she be granted sole custody of their daughter, with the actor being allowed visitation rights.

These developments follow closely on the heels of Masterson’s recent sentencing to 30 years to life in prison after being found guilty of two counts of forcible rape, with a hung jury on a third charge.

The case revolved around events that occurred between 2001 and 2003 at Masterson’s Hollywood Hills residence.

This was the actor’s second trial, coming less than six months after the first one ended in a mistrial in November. Notably, Bijou Phillips was a constant presence throughout the retrial, and poignant court sketches captured Masterson blowing a kiss to her before his sentencing.

Just last week, reports emerged suggesting that Phillips was “distraught” over Masterson’s conviction but had initially expressed “no plans” to sever ties with him.

An unnamed source stated, “She has had a very difficult time since the conviction,” adding, “She loves Danny and has no plans to file for divorce. She will be by his side for it all.”

However, as of September 18th, Phillips, a model and actress renowned for her roles in Sublime music videos and alongside Kate Hudson in “Almost Famous,” has evidently had a change of heart.

In a statement to People magazine, her attorney revealed her decision to initiate divorce proceedings during this tumultuous period, emphasizing her unwavering commitment to her daughter.

The attorney stated, “Ms. Phillips has decided to file for divorce from her husband during this unfortunate time. Her priority remains with her daughter,” and acknowledged that “Mr. Masterson is a wonderful father to their daughter.”

This move to file for divorce marks a significant shift in Phillips’ stance, as she had consistently stood by Masterson’s side throughout his trials, often pictured leaving the courtroom with him. She had even referred to him in a character statement as a “life-saving partner.”

In her divorce filing, Phillips cites “irreconcilable differences,” with the exact date of separation yet to be determined.

Meanwhile, Masterson, known for his time on the sitcom “That ’70s Show,” alongside Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, is reported to have an estimated net worth of $8 million.

His celebrity friends, Kutcher and Kunis, had previously issued character statements on his behalf, but those gestures were met with controversy and eventual apologies.
