Boren was arrested in August following tips to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office in Eugene, Oregon, alleging that she was uploading child pornography to the internet.

A detective discovered a sexually explicit image of a girl estimated to be 12 years old or younger that had been uploaded multiple times from email accounts traced back to Boren.
At the time of her arrest, Boren was working as an instructional assistant in the Fern Ridge School District.
She was subsequently suspended from her position, barred from school grounds, and prohibited from having contact with students.
The sheriff’s office reported that no children known to Boren through her job were identified as victims.

Prior to her arrest, Boren posted several photos of herself with an 11-year-old girl, a young drag queen named Vanellope MacPherson DuPont, on her Instagram account, stating that she was the child’s “drag mom.” Boren’s Instagram handle was “alwaizcraving.”
In October, Old Nick’s Pub, a Satan-themed establishment in Eugene, Oregon, announced that it was hosting Vanellope for a drag queen event.
The pub’s Facebook post promoting the event stated, “Vanellope is here to show you what an 11-year-old drag queen can do.”

Boren participated in the October event, which occurred two months after her arrest.
Around 200 protesters and supporters attended the event, with some carrying semi-automatic rifles.
Protesters opposed to the event held a sign reading, “What kind of monster exposes kids to this?” while supporters shouted “go home Nazis” and displayed a banner reading “protect trans youth.”

Vanellope reportedly did not perform as planned.
Old Nick’s Pub has also hosted Drag Queen Story Hour events featuring Vanellope and adult drag burlesque events that do not include the young performer. The pub accused critics of sexualizing the child performer and claimed in a Facebook comment that the issue “boils down to fundamental misogyny.”
Vanellope’s family and friends released a statement asserting that the relationship between Boren and the child was strictly professional and that they had only met “maybe four or five times.”
The statement clarified that “Meta-Boren was not a family friend, nor was she ever a mentor for V in the drag world,” adding that all ties had been severed since Boren’s arrest in August.
