A trucker has sounded the alarm about the potential consequences of President Biden’s new EPA regulations, warning that they could potentially endanger the American food supply and disrupt the national supply chain.
Mike Kucharski, the co-owner of JKC Trucking, voiced his concerns on “Fox & Friends” about the new green energy guidelines, especially at a time when his industry is already navigating extensive bureaucracy.
Kucharski said to Steve Doocy, “This mandate that they’re proposing is based on brand-new technology, and I just want to say I support green energy, but it’s extremely frustrating they’re trying to jam this down truckers’ throats because we’re already overregulated.”

He further elaborated on his concerns, saying, “These regulations are not practical and almost impossible for five reasons. The costs are astronomical. Truckers will not be able to afford these things… These new machines, infrastructure, we’re not ready for that. Testing data is slim to none. It’s being done right now. Driving range is way less than we currently have, and it’s going to have… less payload… and then the worst part is the American people are going to pay for all these new trucks.”

The EPA’s new regulations aim to be “significantly more stringent” and to “cover a wider range of heavy-duty engine operating conditions” than past measures, targeting the reduction of nitrogen oxides and other pollutants.
Although the rule was formally enacted on March 27 of this year, it will apply to new trucks sold after 2027.
However, Kucharski’s fear lies in the rapid adoption of this technology.
He believes it could be problematic, potentially resulting in a significant disruption to the supply chain.
“This technology is being passed through way too fast with little testing and data. These truckers need an affordable hybrid truck with, I would say, at least two systems of power,” Kucharski emphasized. “If one shuts down or brakes, the other one continues.”

He added, “I would love to see a truck with three systems, so… we could continue going because if this technology fails, the entire supply chain will be dead in the water. Failure is not merely inconvenient, it’s catastrophic. This is not an option, especially for the food supply chain of America.”
While the EPA estimates the cost of the technology needed to comply with the new rule’s standards to be between $2,568 and $8,304 per vehicle, the American Truck Dealers Association (ATDA) has a different perspective, projecting an increase of $42,000 per truck.

The ATDA also forecasts that the new regulations could result in a nationwide expenditure of $55 billion over the duration of the program.
