The Biden administration has criticized Russia for its “environmentally unsound” attack on a US surveillance drone in the Black Sea, highlighting the US military’s increasingly insane focus on green priorities.
Russian warplanes forced the US MQ-9 drone to land in international waters after dumping fuel on and flying recklessly close to it.
US European Command weakly described the incident as “unsafe and unprofessional.”

Under President Joe Biden, the Defense Department considers “tackling the climate crisis” one of America’s top national security issues.
The Pentagon recently decided to elevate “climate change as a national security priority,” integrating climate considerations into policies, strategies, and partner engagements.

In 2021, the Defense Department issued a “climate adaptation plan,” followed by a “progress report” in 2022.
The Army, Navy, and Air Force also released their own “climate strategy” plans for the first time.
As part of this emphasis on green priorities, the Biden administration mandated late last year that contractors reduce CO2 emissions and consider “the climate impact of US weapons.”

These mandates came amidst the war in Ukraine and at a time when Russia, China, Iran, and other hostile regimes are investing in their warfighting capabilities.
The Pentagon’s focus on the environmental impact of Russia’s fuel dump during the recent drone incident has attracted criticism on social media.
One critic called the US government “lame” while another sarcastically remarked on the Russian pilot’s lack of pronouns on their Twitter profile, alluding to the US military’s efforts to promote diversity and inclusion.
