Breaking: Pfizer Announces Covid Vaccine That Is 90% Effective

Pfizer, a giant U.S. pharmaceutical company, and a biotech firm from Germany called, BioNTech, released information announcing their Covid-19 vaccine was 90% effective in preventing the virus in patients without evidence of prior infection.

The CNBC report states that “the results were based on the first interim efficacy analysis conducted by an external and independent Data Monitoring Committee from the phase three clinical study.” The study split the “94 confirmed Covid-19 infections among the trial’s 43,538 participants” into two groups; those that received the vaccine and those that received the placebo.

The pharmaceutical giants reported that after splitting the groups, the efficacy rate of the vaccine at seven days after the second dose was 90%. The two companies are calling this “a great day for science and humanity.”

Pfizer Chairman and CEO Dr. Albert Bourla said that “we can see light at the end of the tunnel” when it comes to the reign of terror Covid has had over the world.

This vaccine was apart of President Trump’s “Operation Warpspeed.” The vaccine is still in its third stage of trials. CNBC reports that Dr. Fauci said he would accept a vaccine efficacy rate of 50% or 60%. With the current efficacy rate at 90%, it far surpasses the vaccine’s required efficacy by left’s poster boy for handling Covid.

The Pfizer vaccine is a “two-dose schedule,” meaning that the patient needs two doses for the vaccine to be effective at “protecting from Covid 28 days after the initial vaccination.”

The efficacy rate will probably change as the results hit the final stage. Still, the Chairman and CEO of Pfizer, Dr. Abler Bourla, said, “the first set of results” from the vaccines “Phase 3 Covid-19 vaccine trial” shows the “evidence” that the vaccine is capable of preventing Covid-19.

In his statement, he says, “We are reaching this critical milestone in our vaccine development program at a time when the world needs it most with infection rates setting new records, infection rates setting new records, hospitals nearing over-capacity and economies struggling to reopen.”

He continued, ‘With today’s news, we are a significant step closer to providing people around the world with a much-needed breakthrough to help bring an end to this global health crisis. We look forward to sharing additional efficacy and safety data generated from thousands of participants in the coming weeks.”

The pharmaceutical giants will apply for the U.S. FDA emergency use authorization. The report states that “Pfizer and BioNTech expect to produce up to 50 million vaccine doses in 2020, and up to 1.3 billion doses in 2021.”

Normally a safe and effective vaccine takes decades before coming to the mainstage. The medical community hopes that this record-breaking time frame allows the vaccine to be “ready in the first half of 2021.”

Probably not, but they would be more likely to take a vaccine that gets positive media coverage during a time in our republic when both candidates for President are forced to wait until after the legal battle finishes to find out who wins.
