Anyone who signed the pledge to boycott Target is going to love this story.
Following North Carolina’s so-called “Bathroom Bill” requiring transgender individuals to use the bathroom that corresponds with the gender on their birth certificate, every celebrity and corporation seemed to think that we needed their opinion on the matter. None seemed concerned that the issue could be solved extremely simply by offering a gender neutral bathroom – or realized that someone who is transgender and transitioned can have the gender on their birth certificate changed. In other words, a female who transitions to male wouldn’t be forced to use the women’s bathroom as a male, like many liberals have claimed.

Target is perhaps the most well known corporation taking a stand on the issue, allowing their shoppers to use whatever bathroom they want. A petition to boycott the store quickly garnered over a million signatures. I should clarify that nobody who opposes Target for this is doing so because they’re afraid of transgender people in their bathroom. They’re afraid of a pervert using whatever bathroom they please – and defending it by merely “identifying” as the opposite gender.
Admittedly, thinking about potty-politics doesn’t exactly take up much of my time, but it looks like those who protested Target may have had a point. ABC’s Local News 8 reports:
A man who identifies as a transgender woman has been arrested after they took photos of other women inside of the changing room at Target in Ammon.
On Monday the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Ammon Target store where an adult female says a person taking pictures of her while she was inside a changing room trying on clothes. The woman noticed the person reaching over the wall of the changing room with a cell phone to take pictures. The victim confronted the subject who ran from the store.
Detectives interviewed witnesses and security footage from Target which led them to 43-year-old Sean Patrick Smith, who also identifies as Shauna Patricia Smith, a transgender female. After interviewing Smith she was taken into custody by Detectives and booked into the Bonneville County Jail for one felony count of voyeurism.
Detectives are still investigating to determine if any more victims exist relating to this incident.
Meanwhile, their competitors (such as Walmart) have remained silent on the great bathroom debate. Taking a political stance as a corporation is almost always a losing game. Is there any better way to guarantee that you’ll alienate at least half your customers?
