Democrat Senator Absurdly Claims People Will ‘Revolt’ If Supreme Court Blocks Gun Control

Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy recently claimed on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that if the United States Supreme Court persists in overturning new gun control laws, Americans would “revolt.”

However, his prediction appears to be a misinterpretation of public sentiment, which in fact may lean in the opposite direction.

Murphy’s comments were in response to a 2022 Supreme Court ruling, penned by Justice Clarence Thomas, which nullified New York’s restrictions on concealed carry.

A more recent ruling by Virginia District Court Judge Robert Payne also came under fire, which barred the sale of guns to 18-20-year-olds, citing it would impose limitations that “do not exist with other constitutional guarantees.”

Senator Murphy voiced his dissatisfaction, alleging that the courts often stifled any progress towards stringent gun control laws by intervening in the legislative processes.

He stated, “If the Supreme Court eventually says that states or the Congress can’t pass universal background checks or can’t take these assault weapons off the streets, I think there’s going to be a popular revolt over that policy.”

To make things perfectly clear, those who are proposing “gun control” are not proposing the eradication of guns. They are proposing the centralization of firearms in the hands of government, the very definition of totalitarianism.

Will people rise up if Congress doesn't pass gun control?

However, Murphy’s projection seems to misunderstand the significant portion of the American populace that cherishes their Second Amendment rights.

Many believe that tightening gun control could instead ignite public unrest.

The senator proceeded to cast doubt on the Supreme Court’s legitimacy, saying, “A court that’s already pretty illegitimate, is going to be in full crisis mode.”

He vowed that lawmakers would continue to “regulate who owns weapons and what kind of weapons are owned,” regardless of potential court resistance.

He touted recent legislation, proclaiming, “We broke a 30-year logjam last year by passing the first major gun safety initiative.”

He also pointed to conservative states like Tennessee considering red flag laws and Texas mulling over raising the age to purchase assault weapons. According to Murphy, “I think our movement is in a position to win.”

Yet, the Senator’s perspective seems to overlook the potential backlash from citizens who may perceive these proposed measures as infringements on their constitutional rights.

The debate on gun control continues to be a contentious issue in American society, with the Supreme Court’s rulings reflecting the views of a considerable segment of the population.
