It wasn’t all that long ago that General James “Mad Dog” Mattis was easily one of the most popular and most admired members of President Donald Trump’s Cabinet. The president sang his praises on many occasions and Americans slept peacefully at night knowing that we had hard-chargers on the front lines ready to defend this country at any cost.
But that eventually changed– in a big way — as Mattis’ and Trump’s relationship began to spiral downward. At one point, it was clear that Mattis and Trump shared completely different views on just about everything related to foreign policy. That eventually led to Mattis’ departure from the White House.
While Trump moved on, as he always does, Mattis just couldn’t quite let go of the past. Mattis has attacked the president on several occasions since he left his post as secretary of defense. He’s been fairly quiet for some time, up until this week when he made a big splash in a request to potential president-elect Joe Biden.

According to Fox News, in an op-ed for a publication called Foreign Affairs, Mattis called for Biden to forget about Trump’s “America First” policy and instead focus on building relationships with key allies around the world, arguing that it’s those relationships which give America the most security and power.
“In January, when President Joe Biden and his national security team begin to reevaluate U.S. foreign policy, we hope they will quickly revise the national security strategy to eliminate ‘America first’ from its contents, restoring in its place the commitment to cooperative security that has served the United States so well for decades,” Mattis wrote in conjunction with several others in various think-tank roles.

“The best strategy for ensuring safety and prosperity is to buttress American military strength with enhanced civilian tools and a restored network of solid alliances – both necessary to achieving defense in depth,” they added in the piece.
Mattis and his colleagues went on to argue that Trump’s “America First” approach to foreign policy has national security implications and has damaged America’s reputation on the world stage, adding that America is not strong enough on its own to protect itself.

But Mattis’ opinion was not well received by some members of Congress, including Arizona Republican lawmaker Paul Gosar, who immediately slapped Mattis with a truth bomb explaining how Trump supporters truly feel about the “America First” initiative.
“The America First agenda is just in its infancy. There are 75 million of us,” Gosar tweeted.

Elijah Schaffer, a reporter for The Blaze, summed up the fundamental fight between those who believe in “America First” and those on the left who are far more interested in promoting global elitism.

If Biden takes the White House, it looks as though much of the amazing progress Trump has made with “America First” foreign policy will soon be erased. That’s a truly scary thought.
