Mike Pence Turns Down 2021 CPAC Invitation, Director of CPAC Calls Pence's Decision a 'Mistake'

Former Vice President Mike Pence made headlines over the weekend as it was revealed that he rejected an invitation to the mega-popular and highly-influential CPAC conference that will take place this week.

Dan Schneider, the executive director of the Conservative Political Action Conference, issued a statement expressing his disappointment that Pence will not be speaking at this year’s conference, especially given his numerous appearances in the past and his strong, conservative ideology.

According to the Washington Examiner, Schneider expressed his concern in an MSNBC interview on Sunday.

“We are pleased that the president will be joining us, and we’re disappointed the vice president’s not coming. We think it’s a mistake for him not to come. We conservatives think of Vice President Pence with great honor and dignity. He is a real champion of conservatism,” he said.

Schneider went on to reassure Pence that he would be greeted “very warmly” if he made an appearance this year.

However, what the Washington Examiner piece didn’t point out is the logical reason why Pence might be skipping this year’s festivities.

Thanks to conspiracy-theories galore stemming from the QAnon movement about Pence being a “traitor,” along with former President Donald Trump’s insistence that Pence intervene in the Electoral College vote certification last month, it’s really not a surprise that Pence would choose to avoid a conference that will be jam-packed with thousands of some of the very same people who believe Pence is the enemy now.

Remember, a number of Trump’s loyal supporters were driven into an absolute frenzy during the Capitol riots, even erecting a gallow outside of the Capitol Building while chanting about hanging Mike Pence. It was an ugly sight, driven by the lies and false hopes given to millions that somehow, someway, Pence could have saved the Trump presidency.

Since CPAC will undoubtedly draw a number of those people who are under the false impression that Pence isn’t on the team, per se, it’s really not a surprise that he’s passing on this year’s event.

On the other hand, Trump made news as he accepted the invitation to speak at this year’s conference, which has many excited as it will be his first public speaking appearance since leaving the White House last month.

A source familiar with Trump’s expected talking points said that the former president will be “talking about the future of the Republican Party and the conservative movement,” adding that Trump will also touch on President Joe Biden’s disastrous reversal of Trump’s immigration policies, which are already causing dangerous problems for America.

The 2021 CPAC will draw a host of other high-profile names, including Ben Carson, Mike Pompeo, Arkansas gubernatorial candidate Sarah Huckabee Sanders, and former acting director of national intelligence, Ric Grenell.
