Mo Brooks Stands With President Trump, Vows To Challenge Electoral College Vote On Jan 6

President Donald Trump and his campaign haven’t seen much in the way of support from GOP lawmakers in the wake of the November 3 election, even though Trump helped propel many of them to victory in 2018 and in 2020.

But according to Breitbart, Alabama Republican lawmaker Mo Brooks took a significant stand this week after he announced that he’s vowing to challenge the results of the Electoral College when it’s time for Congress to certify the votes on January 6.

Brooks made clear, in no uncertain terms, that he’s only interested in dealing with “legal” votes cast in the 2020 election while insisting if only legal votes were counted, Trump easily secured a second term in the White House.

“In my judgment, if only lawful votes by eligible American citizens were cast, Donald Trump won the Electoral College by a significant margin, and Congress’s certification should reflect that,” Brook said. “This election was stolen by the socialists engaging in extraordinary voter fraud and election theft measures.”

Brooks echoed his statements in an exchange he had with a reporter from The Hill, insisting that the election was stolen from Trump and said that he’ll use his power to challenge the final certification.

“I’m doing this because in my judgment this is the worst election theft in the history of the United States. And if there was a way to determine the Electoral College outcome using only lawful votes cast by eligible American citizens, then Donald Trump won the Electoral College,” Brooks told The Hill.

Brooks went on to explain that he’s not really paying attention to the numerous court cases being filed by Trump’s lawyers in various swing states, essentially admitting that he believes fraudulent actions happened but said that Congress would be the best way to tackle the allegations of widespread fraud.

“It is extremely difficult in a court of law to determine how many illegal votes were cast and who they were cast for. And that is one of the reasons why the FBI, the Justice Department and the federal judiciary are wholly inadequate for handling this issue,” Brooks said.

Challenging the Electoral College vote would require a Republican colleague in the U.S. Senate to sign on, which Brooks has been quietly working on securing in the background.

The Alabama lawmaker said even if he can’t rally support from his colleagues in the House or Senate to back him on the plan, he would still take a stand and attempt to challenge the vote, even if only in a symbolic way.

While many others have doubted that challenging the Electoral College vote would make any difference, it’s refreshing to see at least some Congresspeople out there who are willing to back the president during such trying times.
