Pelosi Issues Severe Warning to Democrats Ahead of SOTU – by Calvin Freiburger

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi wants to lay down some ground rules for her fellow Democrats ahead of tonight’s State of the Union Address, and for once they’re not entirely insane — even if she’s expressing them in a way that undercuts her intended message.
The Washington Free Beacon reports that during House Democrats’ weekly private meeting, Pelosi rather crudely conveyed that she wanted the party’s messaging to be about the assumed negatives in President Donald Trump’s speech, with no Democrat antics in protest of it causing a distraction:
“Let the attention be on his slobbering self,” she said, according to two sources in the room. “If you want to walk out, don’t come in.”
A dozen or so House Democrats are expected to skip out on the State of the Union in protest of Trump’s presidency.
Pelosi told Democrats she expects all eyes to be on the president during the speech, and wants to avoid any kind of interruption that could fuel the Republican base.
She further argued expectations are so low for Trump that pundits are likely to give him a good review for doing the bare minimum.
“If his nose isn’t running and he isn’t burping, he did a great speech,” Pelosi said.
Rather than boycott the address, some Democrats will protest by bringing young illegal immigrants–those who represent a larger group who could benefit from immigration reform–as guests. Other lawmakers plan to bring victims of sexual misconduct and will wear black to show solidarity with women who have accused Trump of sexual misconduct.
Aside from the “slobbering self” invective (which is surely both what she actually believes and fodder for the fellow Trump haters in her caucus), this is actually pretty levelheaded advice, as dramatic displays will only make the Dems look like petty twerps who still can’t get over losing an election more than a year after the fact (which, well, is exactly what they are).

However, she apparently doesn’t think that avoiding distractions is important enough to discourage all the other distractions lefty lawmakers have planned, most notably the stunt of bringing illegal immigrants to the speech as their guests. In fact, Politico notes that Pelosi herself is bringing at least one young “undocumented” guest herself. Gotta love mixed messaging.
Speaking of which, the Washington Examiner reports that Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) had a bold suggestion for what to do with those “guests”:
“Of all the places where the Rule of Law needs to be enforced, it should be in the hallowed halls of Congress,” Gosar said on Twitter ahead of Trump’s address. “Any illegal aliens attempting to go through security, under any pretext of invitation or otherwise, should be arrested and deported.”
In a series of tweets, Gosar said he asked law enforcement to consider asking all State of the Union attendees for identification to determine if there are any guests who are in the country illegally. He also requested they arrest attendees who are found to be using fraudulent Social Security numbers and identification when they go through security.
Why not? We’re always hearing that we need some sort of amnesty because it’s impossible to find and deport all 11 million (or more) illegal immigrants “in the shadows.” So when some are brazen enough step out of the shadows and into the limelight of Congress itself to demand their lawbreaking be rewarded, why shouldn’t the authorities take the opportunity?
