We all know that Democrats usually come up with the strangest, most ridiculous knee-jerk reactions to any major incident, which is certainly the case in the aftermath of the U.S. Capitol riots last week.
According to the Washington Examiner, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi just announced perhaps one of the most bizarre responses yet to the crisis, as lawmakers will now be subject to passing through metal detectors every day they come in to work.
But for those lawmakers who “refuse to abide” by Overload Pelosi’s new rules, they’ll be subject to massive fines — to the tune of $5,000 for a first offense and $10,000 on subsequent offense, with the fines coming directly out of lawmakers’ salaries.

The Speaker made the announcement on Wednesday, which set off a firestorm of backlash.
“On behalf of the House, I express my deepest gratitude to the U.S. Capitol Police for the valor that they showed during the deadly insurrection on the Capitol, as they protected the lives of the staff and the Congress,” Pelosi wrote in a statement Wednesday night.

“Many House Republicans have disrespected our heroes by verbally abusing them and refusing to adhere to basic precautions keeping members of our Congressional community, including the Capitol Police, safe. The House will soon move forward with a rule change imposing fines on those who refuse to abide by these protections,” she added.
“It is tragic that this step is necessary, but the Chamber of the People’s House must and will be safe.”

This is the same mentality that Democrats come up with on the heels of a mass shooting in America. Instead of targeting the bad guys, such as gang members and other shady actors, they quickly move to impose laws and policies that directly affect law-abiding, American gun owners.

Metal detectors outside of the House would not have stopped the violence we saw last week — it’s just another political stunt by Speaker Pelosi.

Many GOP lawmakers expressed their disdain for the newly installed metal detectors, with Texas Rep. Chip Roy calling them “unconstitutional” and “unnecessary.”
And he’s not wrong — why on Earth would Pelosi insist on scrutinizing what lawmakers are carrying into the Capitol? Many believe it’s a purposeful maneuver to target law-abiding, gun-owning Republican lawmakers.

“She’s trying to say Republican members of Congress can’t be trusted. It’s a nasty, partisan message and would violate the Constitution if they actually tried to stop us,” Republican Rep. Thomas Massie said.
Adding to the controversy is the fact that the U.S. Constitution has specific language that makes her metal detectors — let alone the potential for fines — illegal, as Rep. Louie Gohmert pointed out.
“Article 1, Section 6 of the U.S. Constitution contains specific language prohibiting Members of Congress from being impeded on the way to a session of the House or to a vote. This is harassment. We need protection from the Speaker, not each other,” Gohmert said.
