Students at a school in suburban Washington D.C. are being told to leave their Redskins clothing at home.
Neal Brown, the head of the Green Acres School in Bethesda, Maryland, issued a directive on the school’s home page to all parents. In the letter, Brown wrote that “Redskin” was a racial slur. Intentional or not, its use is “deeply insulting and offensive.” It’s a term that “demeans a group of people.”
“Similarly,” Brown’s letter continued, “the team’s logo also can reasonably be viewed as racially demeaning. At best, the image is an ethnic stereotype that promotes cultural misunderstanding; at worst, it is intensely derogatory.”

As a result, Brown said:
I ask that you please not send your children to school wearing clothing with either the team name or logo in the year and years to come. I will be speaking with students to share with them my decision and to enlist their understanding and support. Additionally, we invite you to reach out to us with any questions you may have about how to discuss this with your child.

This argument that the term “Redskins” is offensive falls on deaf ears with the group that the liberal elite tells us is the most offended – Native Americans.
A Washington Post poll last year showed that 90 percent of Native Americans are not offended by the Washington Redskins name – the same polling numbers when the question was asked 12 years prior. The term “Redskin” is so inoffensive that eight in ten said they would not be bothered even if a non-native called them that.

That doesn’t stop the Left – mainly white, wealthy people – from complaining. Native Americans who do complain are the self-proclaimed “leaders” who are completely out of touch with the people they claim to represent.
“I just reject the results,” said Suzan Harjo, 70, an activist who belongs to the Cheyenne and Hodulgee Muscogee tribes. “I don’t agree with them, and I don’t agree that this is a valid way of surveying public opinion in Indian Country.”
But increasingly, it’s falling on deaf ears. The team management refuses to budge. These elitists complaints are falling on deaf ears.
That doesn’t mean the brainwashing doesn’t continue in our nation’s schools, however.
The Green Acres School describes itself as “a national leader in progressive education for children age 3 to grade 8.”

If “progressive education” means diminishing the voice of American Indians who not only accept the term “Redskin” but take pride in it, then you can keep your “progressive education.”
