Romney Pounces, Signals Intent: ‘Yes,’ Donald Trump Getting Impeached by the House Was Right Thing to Do

Utah Republican Senator Mitt Romney used a Sunday interview with CNN’s Dana Bash to bash former President Trump and signal his intent as to whether or not he plans to convict in an upcoming Senate trial.

First Romney was asked by Bash if he agreed with the majority of his GOP Senate colleagues who believe it’s not constitutional to convict a president who is no longer in office.

Romney replied in his usual weasley way “Well, I’ve read a number of law review articles, and I think if you put aside the partisan columns if you will written in various publications and look at those that are written by academics you’ll find that the preponderance of the legal opinion is that an impeachment trial after someone has left office is constitutional.”

“I believe that’s the case,” Romney added. “I’ll of course hear what the lawyers have to say for each side. But I think it’s pretty clear that the effort is constitutional.”

Mitt Romney has always hated the president ever since he won the 2016 election. Most likely because Trump won and Romney lost and because Romney thinks he is more elite and refined than Trump.

Dana Bash then got to the heart of the matter and asked Romney “Do you think it was appropriate that he [Trump] was impeached by the house?”

Romney then clearly signaled his intent, especially given his vote last time “Well, yes. I believe that what is being alleged and what we saw which is incitement to insurrection is an impeachable offense. If not, what is?”

“It continues a pattern the president had of trying to corrupt the election by his communication with Ukraine, by trying to corrupt the election with regards to the lie that he’s been spreading over the last several months and that if you will firing up a crowd and encouraging them to March on the capitol at the time that the Congress was carrying out its constitutional responsibility to certify the election.”

“This is — these allegations are very serious,” Romney added. They haven’t been defended yet by the president. He deserves a chance to have that heard but I think it’s important for us to go through the normal justice process and for there to be resolution.”

Simply sickening.

The old axiom is completely true. Democrats march in lockstep and push their agenda, Republicans form circular firing squads.

Sad but true.

It is people like Mitt Romney and Mitch McConnell, leaders who care not a whit for the people that elected them other than for their vote, that is forcing many of us to consider what a new political party might look like.

Say that sadly as a lifelong Republican but the GOP no longer cares about or serves the interests of the average working person.

“America first” are bad words to the Republicans who serve in Washington D.C. and it’s past time voters had a real alternative.

I used to think “if only the Republicans took the House it would make a difference.” Then after the GOP took the House we were told it was not enough.

Then it was “if we (the GOP) could only take the Senate and keep the House, THEN we could really make a difference. OF course that turned out to not be true.

Then we were told if the GOP won the presidency, kept the Senate and the House THEN we could really get stuff done.

Well guess what. After Trump won in 2016 the GOP in D.C. did more to try and stop Trump than they ever did Obama.

The GOP leadership is full of it and Mitt Romney exemplifies the Washington D.C. establishment and it’s a really bad look.
