President Donald Trump has taken an extraordinary amount of heat in the wake of the Capitol riots that shook American democracy and widened the already-massive rift between the two major parties.
As far as if the president deserves some or any of that heat is what’s currently being debated, but it appears as if jumping on the blame-Trump bandwagon is currently the trendy political move, even among members of the president’s own party.
According to Breitbart, a group of six Republican lawmakers on Tuesday introduced a resolution to censure the president over his alleged involvement in “inciting” thousands of rioters who would eventually overtake the U.S. Capitol Building, leaving a trail of destruction and death in their wake.

The House Republicans turning on Trump include Reps. Tom Reed (R-NY), Young Kim (R-CA), Fred Upton (R-MI), John Curtis (R-UT), Peter Meijer (R-MI), and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA).
News of the censure resolution came at the same time that House Democrats took the next steps in preparing for an expedited — and quite frankly, an unprecedented — second impeachment battle, as a vast majority of Democrats believe what happened in the nation’s capital on January 6 is 100 percent the fault of the president, even though there’s growing evidence to the contrary.

“This is an important step to hold the President accountable. Congress must make clear that it rejects extremism and condemns the President’s actions. We will continue to push for Congressional leaders to work with us on investigating the events surrounding this dark period in our history and make sure it never happens again with the public’s trust in our democratic institutions restored,” Rep. Reed said.
The other GOP lawmakers echoed that statement, slamming Trump for his rhetoric after the 2020 election, targeting his repeated claims that he was the clear and rightful winner of the election when, in fact, former Vice President Joe Biden won, according to the official record.

“President Trump’s attempts to undermine the outcome of the 2020 election have been unconscionable. The combination of a false information campaign coupled with inflammatory rhetoric led to the devastation that I was a personal witness to on the House Floor on January 6th. His actions threatened the integrity of our democracy, Congress, and his own Vice President,” Rep. Fitzpatrick said.
The censure resolution also came at the same time that House Democrats passed a resolution calling for the invocation of the 25th Amendment to remove the president from office, which was a notion that Vice President Mike Pence promptly denied, citing the fact that it would be even more devastating for America to take that path.
Democrats are expected to pass the articles of impeachment in the House this week, which will then be sent over to the Senate for a full trial. The only chance they have of convicting and removing the president is if Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell votes in favor of doing so, which would likely lead to a number of GOP senators joining with him.
