A student-led vigil for Kate Steinle was disrupted by “activists” on Thursday night.
The vigil was held Thursday night, featuring flowers that spelled out “Kate,” candles, and a poster College Republicans made for the event.
Kate Steinle was shot and killed in San Francisco by illegal immigrant and convicted narcotics manufacturer, José Inez García Zárate, who claimed he shot her by accident with a gun he found.

Left wing protesters disrupted the vigil, calling attending students “fascists” and “bigots.”
Finally, protesters ripped up the vigil poster, and threw nit in the trash.

Berkeley College Republicans shared pictures on Facebook, showing the poster, which featured a picture of Kate, torn up and stuck in the trash.
“Last night we held a candlelight vigil in honor of Kate Steinle,” College Republicans wrote. “This morning someone tore up our poster of her and threw it in the trash. This is typical at UC Berkeley, where honoring the legacy of someone who was killed by a 7-time felon and 5-time deportee is offensive.”

Steinle was killed while she walked along a San Francisco pier in July 2015. The shooter had been deported multiple times, and had a long history of felony convictions. Because San Francisco is a sanctuary city, Zárate went to the city after his most recent deportation and illegal re-entry.
Although the gun used in the shooting was reported stolen from a federal agent’s car, Zárate claimed he found it.
Zárate was recently acquitted of Steinle’s murder, sparking a debate over ‘sanctuary’ cities which refuse to cooperate with federal immigration agents.

The poster featured at the vigil was apparently purposefully left sticking out of the trash, so the students who attended the vigil would know what became of it.
Several other posters featured throughout the campus were also taken down.
The Daily Caller reports:
Campus Reform correspondent and Berkeley student Troy Worden explained to Fox News that they held the vigil because they “wanted to honor the memory of Kate Steinle, who was the victim of illegal immigration.”

The vigil was protested by left-wing activists and after the vigil ended those same people took a poster of Steinle’s face and tossed it in the trash.
“An Antifa organization, Refuse Fascism, sent a paid activist to basically desecrate the memorial, to interrupt it, call us fascists, bigots, whatever,” Worden said. “Our message of honoring Kate was totally lost.”
Worden said when the vigil ended, the CRs decided to leave out the candles spelling out “KATE,” the flowers, and the poster they created for the event.
“Some people took it upon themselves to take those things and either get rid of them or tear them up or put them in the trash can,” he said. “This isn’t unique…a few days before the vigil we had actually put up at night posters with Kate’s face on them that said, ‘she had dreams too’ and unfortunately those were taken down too.”

A member of Berkeley College Republicans spoke to Fox & Friends about the night of protest.
From Fox News:
On “Fox & Friends,” Troy Worden, a member of the Berkeley College Republicans and a Campus Reform correspondent, said that most of the mainstream media has forgotten about Steinle, so they wanted to hold a vigil to honor her memory.
“Normally, vigils aren’t contentious at UC Berkeley. You can pretty much wave an ISIS flag around on campus, and no one will bat an eye,” Worden said.
Yet, he said, their Steinle vigil was quickly met by protests from Antifa activists, who interrupted the event and called those honoring Steinle “racists and bigots.”
These liberal Berkeley brats don’t care at all about honoring someone’s memory at a vigil. All they care about is promoting a political agenda. That’s why most vigils held on campus aren’t “contentious,” while this one caused an ANTIFA uproar.
This is truly a disgrace for UC Berkeley.
